Happy National Make a Dog’s Day! There are tons of ways you can celebrate. Pet ‘em, kiss ‘em, walk ‘em, adopt ‘em. You can also donate to your local shelter to help dogs who are in need of a home and little extra love and support. Our girl Ruthie is one of those dogs. Subaru of America, Inc. and ASPCA (who founded National Make a Dog’s Day in 2019) and our awesome local retailer Peninsula Subaru calls dogs like Ruthie the “Underdogs”. Underdogs are older and/or disabled dogs. The pups who are more vulnerable and more difficult to place in homes, like Ruthie who is a senior. It's National Veterinary Technician Week, but we're celebrating our entire Vet Services team! These are the magic people- they take vitals, administer meds, perform open heart surgery, give the best puppy and kitty kisses, educate the public - the whoooooole gamut! They're also really fun to be around and hate getting their picture taken, but we managed to snap a few when they weren't looking. Thank you to each and every one of you amazing, incredible humans.

AAAaaaWoOOOO! Who's ready for the Howl-O-Ween Pet Photo contest!? Duncan, a KHS foster dog (in the process of being adopted; he found a home!💗) is feeding two birds with one hand here: recovering from surgery, and also dressed in a onsie as the cutest baby ever.

SO, it is time to start the contest! Submit your Halloween pet photo for a chance to win a rad KHS gift basket and support the shelter. This is not just a spooky contest, it's a fundraiser! You can submit and vote as much as you would like - all funds will go to helping animals and their people who are in need.

Submissions and votes are NOT limited to KHS alum or animals living in Kitsap County, so share away. This contest is for everyone and the more we share the more we can help the animals. You can submit and vote until October 30th. We will announce the winners on Halloween!

The Howl-O-Ween Pet Photo Contest and fundraiser is back! Starting tomorrow (October 16th) at 4pm, you can begin making submissions and voting for your favorite costumed pet photo. Submissions and voting are NOT limited to Kitsap Humane Society alum or Kitsap County, so share this with your friends and get your spooky on! 👻

This online, festive fundraiser raises funds for our lifesaving programs and services, including animal sheltering and care, veterinary services, foster, canine behavior training, and so much more. It’s an easy way to help out the shelter - all can be done from the comfort of your home.

From October 16-30, you can submit a photo of your pet’s Halloween look to be voted on by the community. While they are all winners to us, the photo with the most votes in each category wins a Kitsap Humane Society gift basket!

Photo submissions are $10 per entry, and you can enter as many photos as you’d like. Each vote is only $1, and all proceeds will go towards caring for vulnerable animals in need at Kitsap Humane Society.

Delphi is ready for trick-or-treating (treats preferable)! This older gal is a sweet, adorable pup. She’s currently in foster and has spent her days digging up every toy out of her bin and walking around with her favorite stuffy as a trophy. She’s a goofball when she is relaxed and can light a whole room up when she flops over for belly rubs or gallops around when she’s happy. Thanks to Poulsbo Coffee Company, our adoptable dude Dewberry had a pup cup, and he was so polite about it. 🥹 His neighbor didn’t approve though. 😔 (Don’t worry, we gave the neighbor pup love too.)

Poulsbo Coffee Company is our Puppuccino Pal of the month. They are a local, family-owned shop that loves connecting with the community and getting visits from all the pups too. If you are craving a cup, grab your pup and go get some of their delicious coffee! ☕️

This year, we’ve awarded Molly “I love dogs” Clark, a beloved, long-term volunteer at KHS, the Apple of Our Eye Award!

KHS’ Apple of Our Eye Award - named in honor of former Washington State Representative and KHS Board Member Sherry Appleton - honors volunteers or organizations who have made significant contributions to the success or development of Kitsap Humane Society or have made extraordinary contributions to animal welfare in the Pacific Northwest.

Molly’s contributions to KHS are endless, and we are so happy to have her as a volunteer, supporter, and friend of KHS! THANK YOU MOLLYYYYY! 🎉🥳🍾

Solstice (grey and white) and Gear are a bonded pair of baby cats who adore each other. Solstice is shy and Gear is slightly more of an extrovert. They can be a little nervous around new faces BUUUUT once they decompress (and are given a churu or two, of course!) these two will accept pets and loving. Their foster family says they make great company, especially at night, because they will sleep right by their side. 🥹 Plus, look how adorable they are when they love on each other. Ugh, we love bonded kitties!
