Remount Horsemanship Inc. Horsemanship using umderstanding, feel, Classical and Vaquero techniques and traditions

Traditionally, the Military Remount program provided horses with a solid foundation in areas such as noise and movement confidence, trail basics, dressage basics, and general fitness, before starting them out on their career. We dream of a world where modern horses have the same benefits of foundation training before becoming eventing, dressage, trail, or reining specialists etc. We believe that this will help many horses lead happier and more fulfilling lives and help to keep their owners safe. It is never fun to ride a horse that spooks explosively at horse shows or jigs when ridden out of the arena. Many of these issues can be avoided when the horse is offered a comprehensive early education. Foundation training is the most important training you can do and often the most overlooked.

This big ole 17hh c**t is starting to figure out his balance and strength. Such a cool guy to have in for starting. He reminds me of my c**t Big Iron.
Take the time it takes. Build them up progressively but slowly as they mature mentally and physically. **tstarting

As always. I was light on the pictures because I was working but a great final day at Horse First Farm in Wisconsin.
We cut, sorted, drove and roped out of the rodear. Everyone did fantastic I was super impressed. Let’s see what next year holds with all practice they’ll be doing!🤙
I had a good sushi dinner with good friends, Ryan Rose Emily Marie, it’s always fun to catch up!
Then caught gears and chased lines home.

Man it’s already the last day of our roping/cow working clinic. Time flies! We’ve been doing lots of rope, rein handling drills, horsemanship and lots of roping cattle outside. Today we’re doing herd work out of the rodear. ALL the students are killing it! It’s been a fantastic weekend and the weather is wonderfully chilly. Today will be a blast for us all👌🤙

This one relates to yesterday’s video.
My preparation for entering the water started when I rounded the fence. Not at the water. I checked if I could move the shoulders left and right. If they’d move the hips. Stay between my reins and legs and go straight. All while videoing and holding the reins in one hand.
When we got to the water, he could investigate it but he had to stay in my imaginary box around us and keep his nose pretty close to he imaginary line running down the middle.
Prepare ahead of time. Have distinct goals and parameters. Be very black and white.
Ride on.

Keep your horses between your legs and reins. I follow tracks a lot whether it’s tracks in an arena, tire tracks like these or cow trails work extremely well also. Don’t just bebop around. Focus where you want to go. Try to keep all four feet on the track. If they leave put them back and get quiet. As soon as you feel a brace or push into your rein or leg get them off it, back on the track then get quiet. Build that up to keeping two feet on the track and moving the other two off the track. It’s a great way to work on centering your horse and feeling where they’re leaking out. **tstarting

It’s always a good day to work cows. I left Duke at home and just brought Big Iron. He has sure matured these last few months and coming right along.
