Remount Horsemanship Inc.

Remount Horsemanship Inc. Foundational training for horses.Horsemanship using feel, classical and vaquero techniques.

Traditionally, the Military Remount program provided horses with a solid foundation in areas such as noise and movement confidence, trail basics, dressage basics, and general fitness, before starting them out on their career. We dream of a world where modern horses have the same benefits of foundation training before becoming eventing, dressage, trail, or reining specialists etc. We believe that

this will help many horses lead happier and more fulfilling lives and help to keep their owners safe. It is never fun to ride a horse that spooks explosively at horse shows or jigs when ridden out of the arena. Many of these issues can be avoided when the horse is offered a comprehensive early education. Foundation training is the most important training you can do and often the most overlooked.

Firm, fair and effective. (I kept saying assertive by mistake in the video) but if you’re not being firm fair and effective you won’t be understood and you’ll be in a weird , confusing sometimes dangerous gray area. Horses don’t like that area. They like and need things black and white. VERY CLEAR.
To be effective doesn’t mean always more pressure. It can mean be more clear, wait longer sometimes, block this shoulder or hip, give more of an open rein, leg, knee etc. but bottom line if you’re not effective you’re not understood and if you’re in the gray area you’re hindering your growth.
For tons of videos on training visit the link in the comments and I’ll gladly help you on your journey.

First time stepping up and asking for the hips.
This is a video of what I kinda don’t want with this ex bucking horse.
Watch his feet. He’s moving backwards and not forwards when asking for his hips. I need that inside hind stepping up and under and the outside front kinda walking around the inside front.
BUT even with a slipping saddle its progress.
Little by little…

I was messaged asking what books I read.
It really varies but here’s 3 I’m reading now and then some books in my library.
From Dressage to Calvary books to cow horses and cowboys. I personally learn from them all. Some books I really enjoy and get into some are more for entertainment and some I just flip pages until I see something that resonates.

WHAT BOOKS DO YOU READ THAT HAVE HELPED YOUR HORSEMANSHIP?

Just a clip from today’s ride. I’m really liking the lightness and soft responses he’s giving.
Through my mentors and the books I read and try to understand I try to emulate the horsemanship through practice and tweaking and more practice.
You may fail but by george never quit!!
So fun. It never gets old!!

Never say never and don’t always say always, usually say usually but I try to never lead a horse by the bridle reins and this is how I always do it 🤙🤙

Pre cursor to shoulder fore/in on a young horse. We prepare our horses for higher education by training isolations at slow gaits to prepare them for more difficult moves at higher gaits.
