Schedule Update: Alumni Maintenance Meetup Rescheduled

​Please note that our maintenance meetup originally scheduled for this Saturday at 9:30 AM is being rescheduled due to an unexpected family emergency.

​We appreciate your patience and understanding, and we are moving the session to join the Halloween Event at Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday, October 31st at 4:30pm.

Loki joined us this week for our immersive Board & Train program. From mastering calm threshold manners to building solid focus around distractions, he is ready to put in the reps and learn the skills needed to become the ultimate well-mannered companion.

As you can see, he’s already figured out that elevated cot time is prime real estate. We are so excited to have him with our pack.

Our exclusive Halloween Maintenance Meetup is almost here! Join us for a fun, focused session to sharpen those training skills amidst the festive chaos.

Meet Sango, a future service dog mastering the art of neutrality under the fairground lights! 🎡✨

​A common myth is that socializing a puppy means letting them say hello to everyone. But for a dog destined for public access, real socialization means learning to remain calm, neutral, and indifferent to high-stimulus environments.

​Flashing carnival rides, loud speakers, and passing crowds? Just background noise.

​Sango showed incredible confidence, settling right into place, focusing on his handler, and proving that exposure without constant interaction builds the rock-solid foundation a working dog needs to thrive. (And yes, there was still plenty of time for some happy grass rolls! 😂)

🐾 Another great turnout at today’s KnightWatch K9 Alumni Maintenance Meetup! 🐾

​Consistency is everything when it comes to keeping skills sharp, and our teams put in some fantastic real-world work today focusing on neutrality, focus, and proofing duration in the face of distractions.

​Here’s a look behind the scenes at what we tackled:
​🔹 Generalizing the Down: We worked on having handlers move all around their downed dogs while maintaining leash contact. The goal? Teaching dogs that a "down" stays a "down" regardless of the handler's position or the angle of the leash.

​🔹 Navigating Big & Small Circles: To help dogs stay calm around movement and build confidence—especially when arousal or reactivity pops up—we took turns placing one dog in the center while the rest of the pack circled at varying distances. Everyone did an amazing job reading their dog and holding focus!

​🔹 The "Art of Being Bored": Whether you’re working with a future service dog or your family pet, one of the most vital life skills is learning to settle and do nothing. From waiting at the vet’s office to hanging out at dog-friendly patios or stores, neutrality is king.

​🔹 Pro Safety Tip – The 3-Point Check:
When settling in public spaces, practice the 3-point check for added security and peace of mind:
​Dog placed in a reliable Down
​Foot firmly stepping on the leash
​Hand still holding the leash loop

​Huge shoutout to all the dedicated handlers who showed up to keep their dogs engaged, confident, and reliable. Keep up the great work, alumni team! 🐕✨
