SAVE THE DATE

Shreveport Forward will hold the 19th lecture in the series on May 16th in the Whited Room on the Centenary Campus from 10am to Noon. We will continue our infrastructure and sprawl discussion, introducing a new concept to consider. We will focus on Catalyst Infrastructure and how it can used to address the challenges in our core neighborhoods. It is a way to use the old and make it new again.

I look forward to seeing you on May 16th.

This coming Saturday, we will be holding our 17th community lecture in the Shreveport Forward series. It is from 10 to Noon in the Whited Room (Bynum Commons Building on the Centenary Campus.

The discussion will focus on Edge Cities and Urban Sprawl. Both of these elements have impacted Shreveport over the years. It has been a process that has occurred over many years. It has impacted our core neighborhoods and our central business district ( the CBD).

Our North Star provides a guide for beginning to address sprawl and the challenges it creates at the neighborhood level.

I look forward to seeing you on Saturday as we work to change our city one step at a time.

Thanks to everyone who attended today’s lecture. It was an informative and creative session. A special thank you to KaDavien Baylor for his insights and perspective on public art.

The sixteenth lecture in the Shreveport Forward community lecture series will take place on Saturday, February 7th, from 10 am to Noon at the Andress Center, 717 Crockett St. in downtown Shreveport.

The Shreveport Forward series encourages Shreveport’s residents to see themselves not only as consumers of the city, but also as active creators of its identity and future. Our past has shaped the Shreveport we enjoy and experience today. Our present-day Shreveport will inform and create our path to the future.

Our sessions lead participants into an active conversation about defining Shreveport’s identity and the small actions that help build a sense of community. We have examined some of the city’s historic milestones, vibrant cultural icons, and our local economy as elements that shape our city. We have also discussed how the Central Business District (CBD) serves as the keystone for Shreveport’s and the region’s future vitality and resiliency, while the neighborhoods are the heart and soul of our community.
We have developed our North Star and have used it for a series of completed and developing projects in our community. These projects have renewed and beautified areas in several of our neighborhoods. Our steps forward have used public art to reshape crosswalks and streets. These projects have improved pedestrian safety and calmed traffic flow. This lecture will focus on how to create this art. We will be joined by KaDavien Baylor, who will provide his insights on these large art projects, including one in the planning stages for the Highland neighborhood. Art not only beautifies but also creates and adds to the sense of Place that has been a focus of our ongoing discussions. It is something that we can use in any neighborhood to take a step forward toward positive change.
Change is often desired but rarely welcome. We are a part of its emergence in Shreveport. Let’s keep the transformation moving forward.
Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with fellow community members and embark on a transformation journey. Join us on February 7th from 10 am to noon at the Andress Center and be part of the conversation that will set Shreveport on a path toward a dynamic, sustainable future. Please feel free to share this email with others who are interested in helping to create Shreveport’s path forward.
