Today we euthanized this poor precious cat, and there are more than a few reasons why and I'd like to share this situation with you guys.
First and foremost she was suffering terribly 😭
Our vet examined her and ran blood work and said even doing allll the things she still may not survive.
Secondly, we were given a ball park estimate to TRY to save her which was $1,500.
That is a lot of money. Most times when we take on new animals we are leaning on faith and hope. Sometimes we are able to raise funds and sometimes we arent. Thats the reality of rescue.
Then there is another big issue that many do not realize we face- where will the animal go? Our personal homes do not have endless space to house animals. Our personal lives do not stop in order for us to care for more animals. We still have homes to maintain, jobs to go to, children to raise, and husbands or significant others. We just push though sometimes exhausting ourselves.
Last but not least our rescue is currently responsible for 16 dogs- mostly large breeds anywhere from 60 pounds to 140 pounds all of which have been with us a minimum of 1 year, some many years.
We are also responsible for 22 cats- some adults and some kittens and several with medical issues.
All of these animals require routine care, food, and if a medical issue arises we take care of it.
Rescue is hard work and expensive, and as badly as we wish we were able to save them all, its just not possible. We give it our very best but sometimes we are faced with hard decisions like we were today.
We do have peace knowing that sweet cat will not suffer dying alone on the streets. She was put to rest by a very loving vet and staff.
Please consider supporting our rescue- we always need large dog fosters, cat fosters, adopters, and of course donations to help financially care for all of current and future animals.
Thank you to everyone who supports us- We could not do any of this without you, and a huge Thank You to Dr Naar and all of the Bossier Animal Hospital Staff. ❤️
