Tapeworms in Dogs & Cats – Quick Owner Guide

Flat intestinal parasites usually picked up from fleas or prey.

👀 **What you’ll notice**
• Rice-like segments around the a**s, bedding, or stool
• Scooting or licking
• Most pets still look and act normal

🔄 **How they spread**
• *Dipylidium* → swallowing an infected flea
• Other tapeworms → rodents, rabbits, raw meat, or wildlife

🔬 **Diagnosis**
Routine f***l tests often miss them — bring a clear photo or sealed sample to your vet.

💊 **Treatment & prevention**
• Vet-prescribed tapeworm medication
• Strict flea control on every pet + the home
• Stop hunting, scavenging, and raw-meat exposure

👨‍👩‍👧 **People risk**
Some are zoonotic. Kids can accidentally swallow an infected flea. Wash hands and keep fleas under control.

In a fire or a flood, cats do the opposite of what we need: they hide, and the noise sends them further under the bed or behind the boiler. Knowing his favorite hiding spots, keeping the carrier by the door and having one bag ready can turn a frantic search into a two-minute job. A window sticker also tells firefighters to look for him if you are not home.
Planned once, ready always. 💛
Find his hiding spots tonight. 🐾

The adoption fee is one of the best deals around, and most people only find that out from the vet bills they never got. 🧡
A typical shelter cat arrives already neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, tested and treated for fleas and worms. Bought separately at a private vet, that list often comes to several hundred dollars, against a fee that usually sits between fifty and a hundred and fifty. What is left over helps the next cat through the same door.
