Veterinary Assistant (or AHT/LVT) for Specialty Facility

**All eligible applicants must be 20 years of age or older due to the nature of our treatment and patient aftercare (radioactive isotope I-131). See our website felinehtc.com for more information about our treatment**

Looking for Two Full-Time Employees: Full-time: 3-4 ten hour shifts (between 30-40 hours, as needed). Employees all work as scheduling coordinators/reception roles, but also care for our patients in the Feline Hyperthyroid Treatment Center. Cat care is about 60% of the job, reception type duties/desk work duties are about 40% of the job.

We are looking for employees who's schedules would require regularly working Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and one weekday as well, as needed. Schedules are not contracted; i.e. we have flexible scheduling and work with employee preferences as much as possible, but cannot guarantee the same schedule week to week, given the clinic's needs. We do also ask for flexibility regarding covering occasional unscheduled sick days and requested absences.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Phone communications, veterinary chart review, scheduling, clinic communications, feline husbandry, medication administration, measuring levels of radiation post-treatment, cleaning (kennels and general), daily patient updates, and patient discharge.

Hours for our clinic are scheduled are as follows:

Sundays 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM

Mondays 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Tuesdays 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Wednesdays 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Thursdays 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Fridays 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Saturdays 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM

As a specialty center, we reside within another clinic (Cats Exclusive Veterinary Center), so do not have traditional client-facing reception position(s). However, all of our employees' positions are a large part 'reception’ type roles, along with feline medical boarding. We are all cross trained and share each of these responsibilities. Reception/desk work duties include taking incoming calls from clients and referring veterinarians, scheduling appointments, chart review, and communicating with referring hospitals. As employees represent the face of our clinic, excellent customer service skills are a must. We will train you on these important communications for the initial first few months of hiring, as well as the skills regarding feline husbandry.

If you would like to work in a progressive environment, are passionate about feline medicine, are a team player, a reliable employee, and have previous experience working with felines in a medical/boarding environment, we would love to hear from you! Animal or veterinary experience is highly preferred, but not always required for the right candidate.

Skills needed:

Passion for working with cats and their unique instincts and temperament
Veterinary experience or intent willingness to learn
Desire to learn about specialty feline husbandry and handling cats in a veterinary setting
Excellent customer service skills, both in person and over the phone
Excellent written communications skills; we are a paper chart facility
Excellent verbal communication skills
Meticulous attention to detail (maintaining accurate medical records and closely monitoring patients is crucial for a successful medical outcome)
Self-directed (you will still have a daily guidance and deadlines for various tasks)
Ability to lift and move 40 lbs (large bags of litter, cases of food, and heavy cats) on a regular basis
Dependable, excellent attendance record; timeliness and attendance are both crucial to the smooth operation of our facility and patient care
Benefits for FT employees include (but are not limited to):
Medical, vision, dental, 401K, sick leave, uniforms, paid time off after one year with the company, and employee discounts.

Please include a cover letter, and let us know what interests you about this position. Please also include a list of references we may contact. Applicants without references and a cover letter will not be considered.

Just a friendly reminder that here at the Hyperthyroid Center, we recommend your senior cat (8 and older) have check ups and lab work run semi-annually with your regular veterinary office.

The goal is to catch medical issues BEFORE you note symptoms.

Often a much better outcome is obtained when a medical issue is caught and treated in the early stages.

Many of the hyperthyroid cats we see have been hyperthyroid for months, sometimes even years!

With regular well-cat visits, you're more likely to catch medical issues (like hyperthyroidism) early on--which could result in far better outcomes.

Here's to a long, long healthy life for your furry friend! 😽😻

Happy November to our senior feline friends and families! We recommend senior cats (Age 8+) visit the veterinarian bi-annually.

The average cat ages around 5 to 10 human years, every year. Imagine going to the doctor once every 10 years?!

Having regular checkups with lab work will help you catch medical issues BEFORE you note symptoms. You will often have a much better outcome when a medical issue is caught and treated in the early stages.

This condition could be caught in the early stages when a senior cat has biannual visits to the veterinarian.
