✨Staff Spotlight: Hailey✨

Meet Hailey, one of the Neurology Department's veterinary technicians!

When she is not in the hospital, she enjoys hiking with her chihuahua (Dottie), travelling, and exploring different National Parks in the US!

"Neurology is a complex place where we interact with owners at the most stressful and scary part of their lives. We often deal with complex cases with spinal injuries, seizures, and brain tumors - just to name a few. I enjoy being able to care for these patients in a time of need and great distress and then watching them regain their quality of life."

This year, we are setting up a traditional Día de los Mu***os ofrenda (altar) in our lobby to honor the memory of the beautiful pets we have lost. 🐾

In tradition, pets act as spiritual guides and are the very first to arrive to celebrate with us.

We want to invite our wonderful community—both our dedicated staff and our clients—to help us fill this space with love. 🧡

How to participate:
📸 Bring a photo: Drop off a printed copy of your pet's photo at our front desk anytime between now and Nov 2nd.
✏️ Write a memory: We have memory tags available in the lobby if you'd like to write their name to hang on the altar.
💬 Comment below: If you can't make it in, reply with your pet's name and a photo here, and our team will print it out and place it on the ofrenda for you.

Thank you for letting us care for your companions through every stage of their journey. 💜

This happy boy is Toby! 🐾

Toby first came to us through our Internal Medicine Department after experiencing intermittent blood in his stool. Our board-certified internist, Dr. Khoo, performed both an upper and lower GI scope, during which multiple samples were collected and sent for testing.

Unfortunately, the results showed that Toby had an adenocarcinoma (a type of cancer) in his lower colon.

Toby then visited our Surgery Department, where our board-certified surgeon, Dr. Howser, performed a colonic resection and anastomosis to remove the cancerous mass. Multiple samples from the surgery were also sent for testing, which confirmed that the mass was cancerous and had spread to a nearby lymph node.

Toby will now be seeing our Oncology Department for further care and treatment. 🩺

He is the cutest and sweetest boy, and while we wish he didn’t have to visit so many of our departments, we are incredibly grateful that we’re able to be here for him and his family every step of the way.

We’re wishing Toby and his family all the best as they continue on this journey! Keep fighting, sweet Toby! ❤️

Meet Mordechai! 🐾

This sweet boy came to see us after experiencing recurrent urinary blockages. During his visit, a contrast study revealed a urethral tear that was causing urine to leak outside of the urinary tract.

Dr. Brasali performed a perineal urethrostomy (PU), a surgery that creates a larger urinary opening to help reduce the risk of future blockages. A catheter was also placed to allow for continued healing of the urethral tear. After 3 days, a second contrast study was performed to reveal there was no longer a leak! 🎉

We’re happy to report that Mordechai is healing well! He has been through quite a lot, and we’re so proud of his progress. Keep up the good work, Mordechai! ❤️

GV20 (Governing Vessel 20) is an acupressure point at the top of the head that is used in human acupuncture to decrease anxiety and improve sleep.

In the veterinary world, we can safely inject sedation medications subcutaneously (SQ) at this site in our cat and dog patients. It provides excellent sedation that starts working in a few short minutes and lasts longer compared to intramuscular (IM) injections. The SQ injection is less painful than an IM injection and requires less restraint, meaning less stress for our patients before they get their sleepy meds! 🎉

A C-arm is an advanced imaging device that provides real-time X-ray images during surgery, allowing our doctors to see inside the body with incredible precision.
