May 17th Club Day = Nosework + Detection Foundations šŸŽÆ

This is where a lot of people get it wrong ā€” nosework isnā€™t just about the dogā€¦
the handler usually needs more training than the dog does.

Weā€™re going to break down the small, foundational steps so you actually know what youā€™re doing when you go home and practice.

What youā€™ll need to bring:
ā€¢ Odors (birch, clove, anise) ā€” Iā€™ll have some, but bring your own if you can
ā€¢ High value food (weā€™ll start here)
ā€¢ Toy reward (for later progression)

Handler basics weā€™re covering:
ā€¢ How to properly store odors (I use glass jars + q-tips)
ā€¢ How to set up your own training space at home
ā€¢ Using odor containment (to prevent cross contamination + sloppy indications)
ā€¢ Why your dog ONLY wears a harness right before a search (this becomes a cue)
ā€¢ Proper leash setup (drag leash, no handle ā€” less interference)

Weā€™ll also introduce ā€œreward from sourceā€ so your dog starts building a clear association with odor ā†’ reward.

āš ļø This is NOT an imprinting session ā€” this is about teaching you the system so you donā€™t create confusion later.
Long-term goal: a clean, focused final response (freeze, sit, or stand at source).
