Compassion should always take precedence over cruelty, even though in some communities basic empathy is regarded as a crime. It is deeply unfair that those people who feed, house, and look after community cats; animals who have been left vulnerable due to systemic failures; are the ones who end up being punished, while the defective policies which caused the problem are left unchallenged.

There is a growing amount of evidence that Trap-Neuter-Return is both humane and effective, and this is backed by real and verifiable data. Instead of acting on this clear evidence, certain local governments decide to focus on punishing the dedicated caregivers. If it becomes a criminal offense to care enough to feed and treat vulnerable animals, then society really does need more people willing to break those rules.

Blocking off a colony's access to food never causes the cats to vanish; on the contrary, starving them makes the animals scatter, venture farther into dangerous areas, and hunt more aggressively out of pure desperation, so that the practice is merely cruelty disguised as a method of control.

On the other hand, well-run Trap-Neuter-Return strategies lead to stable colony numbers, reduce troublesome behaviors, and decreased roaming. When sterilization is combined with regular feeding, the colonies become calmer and healthier, providing a sensible and effective approach rather than letting chaos prevail.

It was never the people who were providing the food that were problems; the real issue was poor policy, and outdated laws will only be changed when people get organized, speak out, and demand better solutions.

The only approach that leads to lasting outcomes; such as safer cats, healthier colonies, and fewer animals ending up in shelter systems; is to support these initiatives. By stabilizing a colony, suffering is prevented from occurring in the first place, since each sterilization breaks the cycle of homeless litters, and consistent feeding provides the essential basis for survival.

It is necessary for members of the community to promote the cause, back up the active caregivers, and not stay quiet when good people are being punished for acting rightly. Each voice that is raised contributes to creating a world in which community cats are safe, respected, and protected rather than being treated merely because they have survived.

To oppose bans on feeding cats, it is necessary to take direct and coordinated action within the community so that compassionate caregivers are not made criminal for doing what is right. Those leading the campaign should get local residents involved in starting petitions, thus showing strong public support and compelling municipal leaders to recognize that humane policies are in line with the values of the community.

By attending town hall meetings and speaking up at city council meetings, people can give the issue a human dimension, using factual evidence to challenge outmoded laws regarding Trap-Neuter-Return while keeping elected officials answerable. Once communities stand together, ineffective policies can be replaced with wise and effective solutions that safeguard both the community cats and the people who care for them.

FIGHT THE BANS! IF YOU REALLY CARE = FEED ANYWAY!

We have a client who is in desperate need of a foster or home for her 2 dogs. They’ve both been in shelters and less than ideal situations, and both the owner and myself hate to see them return to that. If I wasn’t a renter I’d foster them in a heartbeat. They’re both very sweet dogs. House trained. Luna, the corgi mix is a flight risk, but that’s really her only fault haha. Journey, the mini doodle is a little clingy because of her past, but she’s an incredible lap dog. The owner only has until the end of September. 💔😣
