Velvet Buck euro just headed home. This rack was stripped down to the bare antler, cleaned and fake velvet put back on. No chance of rotting or nasty smell down the road. My favorite method (not the only method, just my favorite).
Thanks again Jacob for bringing him to me!!

Hey all!! I just wanted to drop a fast post. I’m getting mounts done as fast and more importantly, as efficiently as I can. Art takes time. I do not post every mount, not even close. Just because I’m not posting work everyday does not mean I’m not working.
Bear and deer (bow) now being open, everyone is thinking about their mounts and understandably so. In the last 3 days I’ve had 7 people either call or text me asking about their mounts. Each one of those calls and messages stops me from working to respond. That in the long run delays the next mount. I always have and I WILL continue to contact customers when I’m working on your mount. At that point you will know your mount is drying and will be ready for pick up in a week or 2 depending on humidity etc.
This has been a pretty crazy busy summer with a few unexpected interruptions starting with the flooding in April. I lost a couple weeks there, moving the entire shop to high ground and putting it all back together. I was very fortunate not to have damage, just lost working time.
Currently I’m pushing to have all 2025 mounts out the door by gun season. I appreciate everyone’s patience and I promise, I will get ahold of you as soon as I’m working on your trophy.
Best of luck out there this season, be safe, have fun, make memories and hopefully you are successful in bagging a great trophy!
*personal opinion, any ‘thing’ successfully harvested is a trophy. The hunt itself is the true reward.

Every year I do an oddball project or 2 for myself in my free time. A good friend asked if I could make her the Incredible Mr Limpet and it sounded fun! I love stepping out of the traditional taxidermy box once in awhile and I always loved this movie. I had to share him. Real skin bass, human prosthetic eyes and human fake teeth and lots of non-traditional taxidermy. 😂 He’s actually been done a couple months and waited on cooler temps before he set out in a box for Kentucky!!!
*I don’t post a lot but to everyone waiting on mounts, knocking them out as fast as I can. I will message you as soon as your mount is put together and in the drying process. 😉

It’s opening day of bow season!!! Here’s a diagram to help with skinning. Please do not cut up past the sternum when gutting. From there make a ‘V’ and go up through the leg pits (not the front of the leg) to the knee and cut it off there. You can see a white line in the pic, please don’t cut it straight across, I’ve had too many deer coming in with the brisket cut short. Pull the hide down to as close to the head as you can before cutting the inside neck off. Please do not bring do not bring me a pile of neck in the deer, I DO NOT need the neck in it for measurements. Feel free to bring me the whole hide and I’ll cut it off where needed.
*as usual, the ticks are bad and will continue to chew on the hide creating bald spots even after the buck is dead. If you would like a nice looking mount, get the hide off as soon as possible and either get it to me or bagged well in a freezer.
Best of luck out there and be safe!

Had an awesome week in Kentucky at Nationals!!! Very few people know that I push my limits for competition. I do things I don’t normally do with customer mounts. It’s my way of playing trial and error with my own pieces to learn how to not make the same mistakes with customer pieces.

The mink was the first critter I ever full carcass casted. I actually competed with it a couple years ago at a different competition. It didn’t do very well but I never got my critique…the main reason I took it. I dusted it off, cleaned the eyes and took it to Nationals. I was not at all shocked to not do better than a 3rd and I was so very happy over the critique I finally got. Learned so much off such a little critter!!!

The Catalina Goat was another critter to learn from, we obviously don’t have them in Wisconsin, lol. I bought the hide and horns from a friend in New Mexico cause they’re just such cool animals. I was happy pulling a 3rd with him and also got an awesome critique…learned so much!!!

The opossum was a fun project Jesse and I did together. Jesse did the metal work and I did the opossum, my first one. They’re a lot trickier than you’d think and I learned SO MUCH from a handful of taxidermists on how to do things easier/differently on the next one. Jesse and I received a third place trophy in the collective artist category with a score of 91 (which would be a blue ribbon if ribbons were given out in that category). So proud of us!!!

The Muskrat and Baby Coot that Hannah and I did just barely got beat out of the top 3 collective artist with a score of 90, still considered blue ribbon. Her and I had the best time working on that mount together and I again, learned so much!!

My main reason for competing is to learn and make myself better for my customers. There is no way I’d be where I am today without the state, national and world associations and the amazing people within them. I truly have the most awesome taxidermy family. Thank you to all of you that helped get me where I am today and continue to help me grow!

To my customers, I’m back to work and will contact you as soon as your mount is on the stand! Thank you for your continued support. 😊

Couple of bears headed home! These were definitely not your average bears. One was roadkill with a lot of damage including needing a full face transplant and some patching from other bears. The other was just missing big sections and needed to have scraps patched in. Glad I could get them put back into presentable bears again. Thank you again Cory for bringing them to me!
