Wild Horse Sanctuary The Sanctuary is located near Shingletown, California on 5,000 acres of lush lava rock-strewn mountain meadow and forest land. Lassen is to the east.

The Wild Horse Sanctuary is a non-profit, tax exempt, public foundation and 5,000 acre preserve dedicated to the protection and preservation of America's wild horses. Rather than allow 80 wild horses living on public land to be destroyed, the founders of the Wild Horse Sanctuary made a major life decision right then and there to rescue these unwanted horses and create a safe home for them. t as quickly, they launched a media campaign to bring attention to the plight of these and hundreds of other wild horses across the west that eventually led to a national moratorium on killing un-adoptable wild horses. 🐴 🎶 If you're looking for some country family fun, the Wild Horse Sanctuary is hosting its free annual Open House on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 11am to 4pm in Shingletown! Come meet the wild horses at the nation's oldest wild horse & burro sanctuary, with docent-led wild horse walks, live music all afternoon The Bstrings,Mountain Messengers, Chase & Friends and Patti Anglin, food trucks Granny's Grill, Holy Crepe Food Truck, and Farmhouse Bakery & Coffee craft vendors & artisans, kids' games & face painting, and grooming, saddling & hoof-trimming demos.

Saturday our longterm volunteer Barbara came for a visit with her friends. They had a blast, they watched a new horse arrive and saw the dynamics unfold when new horses meet for the first time. One of her friends decorated some horse shoes to sell at our annual open house. The group named two of the recently rescued horses, when they heard they needed names the ladies were up for the task. Looking forward to seeing them all again soon.
