πŸ• Whether your dog has over the top energy, is a bit avoidant, has phobias and fears, acts out in big ways, or displays a handful of other concerning behaviors, often insecurity can be an underlining component. Most dogs who I have worked with over the years demonstrate insecurity in some capacity, so building confidence and independence has been a primary goal in my training programs.

In this month's FOCUSed Webinar (released the 1st of the month in the Learning Library) and FOCUS Group (Q&A style discussion held over Zoom) we will talk about how to help our dogs feel more secure, self-assured, and optimistic in their day to day life.

⭐ Topic: Confidence & Independence
⭐ Discussion Schedule: Mon., Oct. 26th @ 7pm (PT)
⭐ Details: Promoting secure attachments to build self-assuredness and optimism

This is a free session for Members. Once enrolled in the FOCUS on Dogs Membership, you can access the Zoom link in your Membership Community Platform. Can't wait to chat with you!

πŸ•We all have occasional over reactions to things. However, when our dogs over react, we immediately label them as "reactive" and dive into ways to fix their inappropriate behavior. While I do want to help my dogs have more proportionate and regulated responses to their environment, I also want to get a little curious about why these big reactions (and big feelings) are occurring in the first place.

In this month's FOCUSed Webinar (released the 1st of the month in the Learning Library) and FOCUS Group (Q&A style discussion held over Zoom) you will learn about building coping skills for your dog to help them better manage themselves in these challenging situations.

⭐ Topic: The Over Reactive Dog

πŸ• Often, when we think of dog training we're envisioning a very structured, formulaic session where we work one on one with the dog to teach them a specific skill. That's one aspect of it, but we also need to consider ALL of the other times the dog is learning new information. One resource that's commonly overlooked is social learning. Dogs are constantly observing and gathering data when around other animals and humans.

In this month's FOCUSed Webinar (released the 1st of the month in the Learning Library) and FOCUS Group (Q&A style discussion held over Zoom) we are going to discuss how to safely and effectively incorporate social time, and especially play time, into our day-to-day life with our dogs.

⭐ Topic: Social Learning & Play
⭐ Discussion Schedule: Mon., Aug. 24th @ 7pm (PT)
⭐ Details: Facilitating positive and educational interactions among playmates

πŸ• While dogs and humans have many similarities in social behavior and communication skills, we still speak different languages. Greeting behavior often highlights these species specific differences, which can create very poor first impressions on both ends. For example, you probably don't spend a lot of time sniffing strangers (especially around their ge****ls!) and your dog wouldn't naturally shake their canine buddy's paw.

In this month's FOCUS Group, we'll highlight the body language and communication skills that help both species successfully greet one another, as well as how to set up the dogs to greet each other in appropriate and safe ways. There is a ton of nuance in building social skills, so this will be an excellent group discussion!

⭐ Topic: Appropriate Greetings

⭐ Schedule: Mon., June 22nd @ 7pm (PT)

⭐ Details: Creating stronger bonds with polite and safe introductions

πŸ• Loose leash walking is one of the most complex skills you will ever teach your dog. There are so many components, from maintaining slack in the leash, to disengaging from distractions, to creating ongoing focus, to demonstrating confidence and relaxation in a variety of environments, etc. Not to mention helping your dog understand where and when to go potty, who to greet (and how to greet them), and where they can and cannot sniff. It's a lot!

In this month's FOCUS Group, we will discuss the ins and outs of loose leash walking. We'll cover how to prepare your dog and yourself for a healthy and productive outing, as well as what to consider when things aren't going as planned.

⭐ Topic: Loose Leash Walking

⭐ Schedule: Mon., May 25th @ 7pm (PT)

πŸ• If you have ever pet a dog, you have practiced "body handling". This is a skill that teaches dogs how to have humans reach into their space. This may be for petting, grooming, vet care, to pick up the dog, to put equipment on the dog, etc. There are dozens of reasons why we may need to reach into their personal bubble, so it's important that our dogs feel comfortable with this action.

In this month's FOCUS Group, we will discuss how to set up these body handling sessions so your dog remains calm, tolerant, and even cooperative through more invasive handling procedures. It's common for dogs to struggle with things like putting on a harness, getting their nails trimmed, or having a stranger touch them unexpectedly. Let's help our dogs trust the process, rather than feeling defensive.

⭐ Topic: Handling & Husbandry

⭐ Schedule: Mon., April 27th @ 7pm (PT)

⭐ Details: Caring for your dog's physical health as well as their emotional wellbeing

Happy Birthday, Wallace!!

Our little pup is now 1 yr old and not so little 😍 He's brought such joy and chaos to our home and we love him to pieces. Even Katia thinks he's pretty cool for an annoying little brother πŸ˜†

I'm so eager to see how he continues to grow up and grow into himself over many more years.

Also, thanks for his birthday cake! I'm sure it'll be shredded in no time, but it'll be very treasured for it's short existence πŸ₯³

πŸ• Stressed dogs often exhibit problematic behaviors. Rather than diving into a training plan to correct these behaviors, I always start with resilience building and nervous system regulation. A resilient and regulated dog has an easier time learning new skills, handling stressors, and making behaviorally appropriate choices. Plus, a resilient and regulated dog is an emotionally healthier dog.

In this month's FOCUS Group, we're going to discuss what a resilience and regulation focused approach looks like, and how to incorporate simple strategies into your day to day life to make huge impacts on your dog's emotional wellness. An extra perk, is that there will also be tons of takeaways for the humans and other animals in the household too!

⭐ Topic: Resilience & Regulation

⭐ Schedule: Mon., March 23rd @ 7:00 pm (PT)

⭐ Details: Finding the key to addressing problematic behaviors

πŸ• Bringing home a new puppy is one of the most exciting things, but also one of the most overwhelming. Puppies mature so quickly, compared to human babies, and it's imperative that we fill this critical time in their development with important life lessons. That's extremely challenging though, when you're also concerned with the peeing and pooping and biting and jumping and chewing and tantrumming and general chaos that's also occurring during your day to day life with your pup.

In this month's FOCUS Group, we're going to discuss puppy development and prioritize what to do when. This will help you simplify your goals as you hit major puppy milestones, as well as learn how to best raise the individual puppy in front of you. Even if you don't have a puppy right now, this session will give you insight on your dog's early life experience to better help you support their learning.

⭐ Topic: Important Puppy Skills

⭐ Schedule: Mon., February 23nd / 7:00-8:00p (PT)

⭐ Details: Prioritizing what matters most for a young dog's development
