Some thoughts...I've raised and trained more puppies than I can count over the years. As I've gone through many phases so has my attitude towards training. As I have let go of being so a**l, I find now that I am so much more patient and relaxed about a puppy just doing it's puppy thing. When I was trained to be a trainer, the methods were so strict and too demanding of a pup at such a young age. These were based in fear of what would happen if a certain behavior, not an aggressive behavior, just puppy stuff, was not addressed asap! Even though sometimes the pup might seem destructive, it's really just a phase. It's the attitude we have toward that phase that can make the puppy phase enjoyable or stressful. So what, they grab a shoe or a blanket or have accidents in the house. The more you stress about something, the more attention you pay towards it, the bigger it becomes. When you approach with an attitude of not making the shoe so important, then it's easier to just help the puppy redirect it's desire to chew a shoe into something they can have. This becomes a positive experience for everyone and so much more enjoyable!
