Perrydale Trails LLC We offer a unique trail horse training facility for horsemen to practice their horses on obstacles. It's peaceful, quiet, and safe.

On your first visit, I will ride with you on a brief tour so you'll know all about our courses. During this time, I'll invite you to ride over some obstacles while you're with my been-there, done-that calm trail horse. Besides having practically every obstacle imaginable in a beautiful setting, you can dry-camp here to further enjoy all that we offer. We have available four sturdy pens with nearby

water. You can camp close to your horses, and restrooms are close. You're also welcome to bring your own pens. Camping here offers faraway visitors the chance to be here, and for those who want extra obstacle practice, staying here for two or three days works perfectly. And then, there are many who just want some quiet get-away horse time at a pretty place. Perrydale Trails fits that description! Camping fee is $20/night/per horse trailer. For the rider who wants to learn more, I offer individual riding instruction for you on your horse @$45/hr. We start with basics and advance as far as you'd like. If you'd like to gain confidence and learn on one of my well-trained horses, it is $90 for 1 1/2 hours. For the novice trailrider/ horse, I'll help you with basic obstacles and horsemanship improvement. Then we'll ride out together on the courses.
​$60 for a 1 1/2 hour lesson. I try to get photographs of everyone who rides here. I edit and email the best pictures to you, free of charge.

Kryss Helfrich and her Cowgirl U is a very welcome addition to Perrydale Trails. We recently hosted their second event this summer, and like the first, it was a huge and happy success! Kryss' game plan is organized and efficient, and I love seeing how she devotes individual time and encouragement to each participant. No one goes home feeling neglected!

Over the three days, 15 women experienced an all-day clinic, a Scavenger Hunt, and a judged trail class, with helpful tips whenever needed. Not only that, but new friendships were forged, and good feelings abounded. Personally, I absolutely loved seeing all the happiness!

We're down to the last hours to collect petition signatures!

The support to save Rilee Park as a protected Heritage Park has been heartwarming. Determined volunteers have devoted long days to knocking on doors and manning petition sites. Qualifying for voter approval in November is one sure way to preserve this beautiful park.

If the signatures meet the quota, Rilee Park, a century farm, will be on the November ballot. With voter approval, it would be forever protected as its donors intended: foot traffic only on the pristine trails, and its agricultural land continuing to be farmed. No future sales. No land use changes. When people donate their land with specifications, it should be honored!

Do note: only Newberg and Dundee citizens may sign. If you have friends and/or relatives in those cities, please urge them to visit the petition sites below. We've found many locals were unaware this little paradise exists. Three members of the Chehalem Park & Recreation Board would like to keep it that way. They want to make it a mountain bike mecca.

Let's do all we can to make sure Rilee Park remains a quiet, protected Heritage Park, not the next mountain bike destination, or that its land use is changed. We need signatures so it can be on the November ballot!

We'd already been riding an hour when I took this video. My Harley was in one of his "exploring" moods; he wanted to go down every single one of our trails. I was just a passenger, reveling in the muffled sounds of his hoofbeats, watching robins, swallows, and jays fly from tree to tree, and every so often, stopping to sample a few sweet wild blackberries and plums.

Remember my post about the good omen when I found three $50 bills in my pocket? Well... superstition is alive and well.

The Save Rilee Park Fundraiser at Perrydale Trails was a HUGE SUCCESS!

We enjoyed perfect weather, 50 riders, an incredible team of mounted and ground helpers who kept the day running smoothly, happy smiles everywhere, and drum roll: we ended the day with $3,300 in donations!

But the feel-good emotions were priceless.

I want to describe the feelings I experienced Sunday, but words seem inadequate. It was everything we hoped it would be ... and more.

Watching horse trailer after horse trailer roll into our driveway... seeing old friends reconnect, and new friendships begin... visiting with horsemen who came because they believe Rilee park is worth protecting... watching our amazing volunteers quietly keeping everything organized ... listening to co-petitioner Matt Smith's heartfelt lunchtime speech... hearing thank-you after thank-you all day long ...

I will not forget these feelings.

Last Sunday, when good people stand together for something worth preserving, they made a difference.

The fight to protect Newberg's Crystal Rilee Park as a newly designated Heritage Park will continue. Right now, many volunteers are rushing to gather petition signatures throughout Newberg and Dundee to place this initiative on the November ballot. Only in-district citizens may vote, so if you have friends or relatives in those towns, hit 'em up!

Thank you to everyone who rode, volunteered, donated, encouraged us, and believed in this cause. Each of you helped write this wonderful chapter in the story of saving Rilee Park.

There's lots to do today as Perrydale Trails prepares for tomorrow's BIG Save Rilee Park Fundraiser Ride!

I'm so excited for this event. Our 50-rider limit filled with ease, and the support has been overwhelming. Helpers, believers, horsemen, hikers, citizens .. so many people feel this little park is worth saving.

In preparation for today's chores, I put on a work shirt I don't wear very often.

Hmm... that feels a little crinkly...

I reached into the pocket and found three $50 bills, washed and dried, hiding inside!

Not only am I $150 richer, I choose to believe it's a good omen.

The battle to save Rilee Park isn't over yet, and finding three Ulysses S. Grants on the eve of our fundraiser feels like a fitting reminder: some things are worth fighting for.
