This National Veterinary Technician Week, we're celebrating the incredible Associates who make our hospitals thrive — like Karen, who began as a CSR and never stopped growing and like Joanne, who sought mentorship and support to obtain her VTNE.

At VCA, we're proud to champion our veterinary technicians every step of the way — offering mentorship, encouragement, and the resources to help you reach your full potential.

To every vet tech in our VCA family: thank you. What you do matters deeply — to our teams, to our patients, and to the pet owners who trust us with their most beloved companions.

Every surgery starts long before the first incision. It starts with a veterinary technician who has spent years mastering their skills, anticipating needs, monitoring vitals, and showing up fully prepared for every patient who comes through the door.

Vet techs are the heart of every OR team, and their skill and dedication make a difference every single day. At some VCA specialty hospitals, we take surgical collaboration even further. Some of our teams include Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs) — professionals who earned specialized degrees specifically to support surgeons in the OR.

The result? Less time under anesthesia. Better outcomes. And a team that truly works as one. 💙

Because every patient is somebody's pet — and they deserve nothing less than the best.

🐾 Sundays at Shoreline!

Sundays can be busy, hectic, and full of surprises here at Shoreline—but what’s a busy day without a little fun along the way? 💙

Our doctors are such an important part of our everyday team, and we’re incredibly lucky to have doctors who go above and beyond not only providing exceptional patient care, but also jumping in to help wherever they’re needed around the hospital!

Dr. Marinaccio is always ready to lend a hand (and maybe grab a mop! 😉). We appreciate you more than you know, Dr. Marinaccio! We love you! 🐾💙

🐝 Meet Gus! 🐾
Gus got a little too curious about some bees today and quickly discovered they weren’t interested in making new friends! 💛🐝

Thankfully, his owners recognized that something wasn’t right and brought him to us immediately. Our incredible doctors, Dr. Schiff and Dr. Harpin, quickly jumped into action, administering medications to treat Gus’s allergic reaction and help him feel much more comfortable.

We’re happy to report that Gus is doing well! ❤️

Bee stings can cause anything from mild swelling to severe allergic reactions in pets. If your pet is ever stung and develops facial swelling, hives, vomiting, collapse, difficulty breathing, or seems unusually lethargic, don’t wait, seek veterinary care right away.

Way to go, Gus’ family, for acting so quickly, and thank you to our amazing team for providing the compassionate, gold-standard care our patients deserve every day! 🩺🐾

Dr. Vander Ploeg is one of our talented Veterinary Interns here at Shoreline, and we are beyond grateful to have her as part of our team. Her dedication, compassion, and commitment to providing exceptional patient care make her an invaluable member of our hospital.

“Hi, I’m Dr. Alexa Vander Ploeg! I graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and completed my clinical year at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. 🇺🇸🎆 While many people were enjoying barbecues, fireworks, and time with family, our Emergency & Critical Care team at VCA Shoreline was exactly where they always are when pets need them most—right here, providing lifesaving care.

At VCA Shoreline, our ER is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, because emergencies don’t take holidays.

These videos feature some of our incredible 2026–2027 Emergency Interns alongside our talented ER Criticalist, Dr. Shaylan Meyer, hard at work on the Fourth of July. Behind every patient is a team collaborating, and problem-solving, to deliver the highest level of veterinary medicine.

The holiday brought a fast-paced and demanding caseload, but through every emergency, our team continued to provide the compassionate, gold-standard care that VCA Shoreline is known for.❤️🐾

☀️ Warm weather is here — let’s keep our pets safe!

Rising temps can be dangerous for our furry friends, especially when it comes to overheating. A few simple steps can make all the difference:
🚗 Never leave pets in the car
🐾 Protect paws from hot pavement
💧 Keep fresh water available
🌳 Take breaks in the shade
🌞 Limit outdoor activity during peak heat
Know the signs of heatstroke and act fast — your pet is counting on you 💙
