🐾 Every single day, rescues and shelters see kittens fighting incredibly hard against illnesses that are preventable.

🙏When you make sure your cat gets their kitten boosters and routine vaccines, you aren't just protecting *your* baby—you are protecting every other cat in your neighborhood and community. These routine shots are the exact weapons their tiny immune systems need to fight off devastating viruses and infections.

✨ **If you recently got a "free kitten," here is your gentle but urgent reminder:** ✨
* **You NEED vaccinations!**
* **You NEED to spay and neuter!**
Those are NOT free. But we can help you with low cost options.

Taking these steps is vital for the betterment of the feline species. It has a massive, direct impact on:
📉 Local shelters and rescues facing overcrowding
🏡 Your neighbors and your community
❤️ Your family, your cat, and yourself

❤️‍🩹You might not feel it or see it directly but, you would if you volunteered. We are grateful for every single pet owner that has gotten their fur babies vaccinated and fixed.

So many people don't think it’s a problem until it’s too late. Please don't wait until a preventable issue becomes an incredibly expensive medical crisis or an accidental pregnancy.

🥺We know allot of you here only see words and pictures but we often say these things thru tears.

Often, these posts are typed with fingers that are also wiping away tears, cleaning up after meals from babies too young or weak to eat on their own that have been kidnapped or orphaned... with little to no sleep, little to no time to eat ourselves, little to no time to think about the next step before being yelled at for not taking on more and more and more...
It's the dreaded snowball effect and shelters/rescues and their people are OVERWHELMED and EXHAUSTED.

It has to be quality vs quantity. It's not personal.

👉Prevention is always cheaper than a cure or treatment, and it saves lives. Let's work together to keep these babies healthy and safe! 👇

🤔 Meet one of our recent temporary visitors! This little friend was brought to us, along with a few other wild buddies over the past year. While we absolutely love all animals, we have a very strict, specialized focus: we only do house and barn cats! 🐱

♥️ Luckily, we were able to coordinate and find safe placement for these wild ones with our wonderful friends over at West Sound Wildlife Shelter. But their arrival is the perfect opportunity for a gentle, super important reminder as we navigate a very busy animal season...

🌲It is incredibly natural to want to step in when you see a tiny wild animal, but wild babies need highly specific care, environments, and diets to thrive and successfully transition back into nature.

😞 When humans intervene too quickly, these babies miss out on critical windows to learn essential survival behaviors from their parents. This includes a very normal phase of life where they might get a little lost or separated temporarily and call out for Mom... Unfortunately, those cries often mistakenly draw in well-meaning humans instead!

🟢 If the baby looks plump, clean, and well-cared-for, leave it be. Mom is likely nearby or out hunting! Do not approach.

🟡 If you are worried, watch from a safe distance without disturbing anyone to see if Mom returns.

🔴 Please do not "rescue" a non-urgent animal if you are ill-equipped or haven't spoken to an expert first.

📞If you are genuinely concerned and need guidance, please leave the animal where it is and call the true experts! They have incredibly knowledgeable, helpful staff who are perfectly suited to help precious babies of all different wild species.

🫶Thank you West Sound Wildlife for doing everything you do for all of the different animals you do it for and always calling us back!

🖤 To the community, thank you all for ensuring our local wildlife gets the specialized care they deserve to stay wild and free! 🌲

Once again the community has heard the call to action and surpassed our wildest hopes and dreams! We are full, right up to the rafters with garage sale donations. We will begin taking donations again July 18th!
You, our wonderful donators, are such a huge part of what ensures the rescue can care for the many kitties that need our help. See you at the sale July 11th from 8am to 5pm.
Thank you all!!!

🐾 Double the kittens, double the fun! 🐾

Meet Cookies and Cream, a bonded brother-and-sister duo looking for their forever home.

🍪 Cookies is a brave, thoughtful explorer who always looks before she leaps. She isn't a fan of being picked up or held, but she absolutely wants to be part of the action. Whether it's napping peacefully in the middle of a five-person band practice or calmly observing while friends with toddlers visit, Cookies takes it all in stride and likes to stay close to her people.

🥛 Cream comes equipped with insta-purr technology. The moment he realizes you're a source of pets, the purring starts—sometimes as soon as you make eye contact! He's not quite as fearless as his sister when it comes to loud noises or small grabby hands, but a toy is all it takes to bring him out of his shell. And once he's out, he's all about the attention.

Together, these two are a whirlwind of energy and entertainment. Their favorite game is wrestling each other. Their second favorite game is being dragged around the wooden floor on a blanket or piece of paper... sometimes while still wrestling each other.

If you're looking for a pair of affectionate, hilarious, high-energy kittens to keep you smiling, Cookies and Cream might be the perfect match. ❤️🐱🐱

Please reach out for more information or to meet them!

👔Happy Father's Day! 🐱
Today, we celebrate all the wonderful dads. But let's also celebrate the male cats who can never become fathers! Thanks for doing your part to keep the Mason County kitten population under control, boys!

If your tomcat is still looking to "spread his legacy," give us or your local rescue a shout! Let’s get him snipped so he can enjoy a peaceful, drama-free retirement.

👉Panleukopenia is a fierce virus, but cats are even fiercer fighters. Sometimes, their battle actually begins before they are even born.

🫨When a pregnant mama cat is exposed to panleuk, the virus targets rapidly dividing cells in her body and her babies. In developing fetuses, this most commonly affects the cerebellum—the part of the brain responsible for fine motor control, balance, and coordination.

🙀The result? A neurological condition called Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH), affectionately known in the rescue world as "wobbly cat syndrome."

😽While a CH diagnosis might sound intimidating, we want to clear up a few misconceptions:
They are not in pain.
CH itself is not contagious.
It is non-progressive (meaning it will never get worse!).

😻CH kitties just navigate the world with a little extra flavor! They have a unique, wobbly swagger, a wider stance to keep their balance, and take a few extra tumbles. But they don't know they are any different—they just know they want to play, eat, and be loved!

🫶This baby is living proof of the absolute resilience of these animals. Watching her determination to explore and her joy in everyday moments—wobbles and all! You might recognize her from the incubator reel. 🫶

❣️CH kitties make some of the most deeply affectionate, inspiring, and entertaining companions you will ever meet! Sound off below if you've ever met, fostered or have a wobbly kitty.

Drop your helpful CH kitty tips and pictures below! 🌟

Part 2 🚨 PANLEUK 🚨
🫶First, from the bottom of our hearts, a MASSIVE THANK YOU. You completely fulfilled our wish list items from yesterday! Your incredible response is keeping our heads above water while we fight, and we cannot thank you enough!

😭Some of you have asked us to refill the list with things we still need and asking what us humans need.. words of encouragement and TNR help go so far!!

We have updated our list with supportive medical care items, as well as a few cat trees. Because this virus is so brutal to kill, our exposed cat trees could not be fully disinfected and had to be thrown away.

Amazon:

Walmart:

However, we need to talk about the brutal reality of what we are facing...

👉This is a systemic crisis, and without a massive shift in our community, it is going to get much, much worse. The Panleukopenia (Panleuk) walking through our doors right now has one thing in common: They are coming from outdoors.
* They are kittens pulled from feral colonies.
* They are litters found under dog houses, tucked behind patios, or dumped in woodpiles.

💔 IT IS NOT THEIR FAULT
When feral moms realize their babies are sick, or when the kittens become too weak to nurse, they are left behind. The cats running around unspayed and neutered didn't ask for this. They are victims of a population explosion that no single rescue can control.

⚠️ Most of the kittens we are seeing with Panleuk present as completely normal, healthy, and happy in the beginning.

We are *not* seeing the classic textbook symptoms right away. There is no bloody diarrhea. There is no vomiting. Their stools look perfectly normal. But the virus is secretly destroying their system from the inside out.
👉 **The absolute first thing you might notice is slow weight loss, or a failure to gain weight.** Keep an eye on those grams or ounces. After a few days of subtle weight stalling or mild lethargy, they suddenly crash. By then, it can be too late.

🏡 IF YOU PICK UP A KITTEN OUTSIDE, YOU MUST ISOLATE IT IMMEDIATELY.
‼️RESCUES ARE FULL‼️
Because these kittens look completely fine at first, you *must* assume every outdoor kitten is a risk until fully quarantined and vaccinated.

* Keep them entirely away from your carpets, couches, and bedrooms. A linoleum bathroom or laundry room is best.

* If the kitten is small enough, keep it in a plastic dog kennel or crate—pick a container you won't be sad about throwing away, or one that can withstand a heavy bleach scrub down.

🔥When people bring sick outdoor kittens into their homes without strict quarantine, they are often unknowingly destroying their own environment.
🥵 Panleuk is a scorched-earth virus. Standard household cleaners, hand soap, and regular detergents **do not touch it.**
* Unless you use specialized veterinary-grade cleaners (like Rescue concentrate) or high-strength bleach, the virus lives on.
* **If it gets into your carpets, your couches, porous cat trees, or your dirt yard, it is there to stay.** It can survive in the environment for *months or even years*, making your home unsafe for any unvaccinated cat.

🛠️ WE NEED TO:
1. Stop the cycle — Spay and Neuter.
If you are feeding outdoor cats on your property or in your neighborhood, they *must* be snipped. Stop the production of babies born just to suffer from this virus.

2. Become a neighborhood trapper.
We need population control, which means going deep and heavy into TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return). Reach out to us or local resources to learn how. We need feet on the ground in every neighborhood.

3. Vaccinate your indoor pets.
If your indoor cats aren't vaccinated, and you accidentally track this incredibly stable virus into your house on your shoes, they are at massive risk.

Please, help us nip it in the bud by snipping the outdoor colonies.

🚨 CRITICAL EMERGENCY 🚨
This last week has been profoundly heavy. Kitten Rescue of Mason County, along with several of our fellow rescue partners are currently facing Feline Panleukopenia (FPV) on-site.

‼️Right now, we are fighting to save the lives of the cats already in our care and cannot take on more.

We have been running around like madmen—hot, hungry, tired, and deeply overwhelmed. We are burning through approximately 20 disposable PPE gowns a day. We are changing gloves every single second, in-between every single cat. Going thru jugs of bleach and Rescue for sanitizing.

❤️‍🩹The the biggest way you can support our team and save these cats is by donating the critical supplies we will be burning through:
We have set up two ways to get these critical supplies to us immediately:

🛍️**Amazon Wish List (Best for PPE):

https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/18CGEHATAG9IR?ref_=wl_share

– Use this for disposable gowns, gloves, b***y covers, and protective gear.

(If you work with a supplier that can donate, please email us! We were told there's a local guy but no one knew his name!)

🎁 **Walmart Wish List (Best for Bleach):** – Walmart has cheaper, easily available bleach right now (Amazon is pricey or unavailable).

https://www.walmart.com/lists/wishlist/4bc9b874-2335-4ddb-8653-de6b1f904635

‼️We need regular bleach—NOT low-splash, and NOT fragranced. Keep it simple.*

👉 If you happen to be running to Walmart today anyway, please pick up an extra jug of bleach and drop it off to us in the UPS bin. 🥹

** If you spot candy on there, please know it’s the smallest token of energy and thanks we can offer to the exhausted volunteers and staff walking through our doors right now.

**💔 PANLEUKOPENIA IS PREVENTABLE. PLEASE VACCINATE YOUR CATS.**

‼️Panleuk is a highly contagious, scary, and often fatal virus. It attacks a kitty’s body by dividing cells so intensely that it destroys their intestines and bone marrow, causing severe vomiting, diarrhea, fever, lethargy, and extreme dehydration.

The "P" in the FVRCP vaccine stands for Panleukopenia.

Your vet has it, Tractor Supply carries it, and there are pop-up vaccine clinics advertised.

👉Check online or connect with a local rescue! (Hello! Email us! [email protected])
You can even buy it and administer it yourself at home.

* **Follow the schedule.** Kittens need the full series: 3 vaccines, exactly 21 days apart. Do not be late. If your adult cat hasn't had it, get it done!

* **Protect your own.** If you work in rescue, volunteer, or handle community cats, do not forget your personal cats at home. Ensure their vaccines are fully up to date and be mindful of changing clothes etc.

* **Keep them inside.** Keep your cats indoors to prevent spreading this devastating disease back and forth, and help us keep community/feral colonies in check.

🥹 Thank you for your love, your support, and for helping us fight this. We cannot do it without our community. 🐾💔
