Hank, the cutest chocolate lab puppy on the planet!

He is learning all the foundation skills to be a solid canine citizen.

Tonight I taught his young owner nosework! A huge passion of mine because any dog can do it and even children can do it with their dogs.

Hank was so proud every time he found a hide he would wag his tail and do a proud zoomie. It was precious..

Big round of applause for Ozzy!

He mastered that broken open bag of dog food.

I have thoroughly enjoyed working with his family for the last 5 weeks.

We've done training at their home and field trips to two locations.

Ozzy has improved so much on his recall, he did a rapid recall away from two dogs playing in the field today.

He is having positive interactions and even curious about more people and dogs. Clicker training and giving Ozzy a voice. Letting him decide who he approaches. Controlled exposure and building confidence.

Bremerton Folks
I need some help. If I can't get 2 more folks Ill have to cancel this next Bremerton class.

Its Thursdays at 7pm starting this Thursday. Its my Bordeom Buster Group Class. $120

Perfect class for rainy and dark fall weather! Ive got tons of fun stuff purchased for this class.

This class incorporates two activities you can re-create at home!

1. Movement puzzles (obstacle course) for confidence building.

2. I will also teach you how to use their nose so you can tire them out at home. 20mins of sniffing is similar to a walk! (Searching for treats)

Proudest dog trainer alive tonight! These two have worked for a whole month, meeting each week to prepare to take the AKC Canine Good Citizen test.

Each week they practiced all 10 items and worked hard to overcome the challenges that come along with it.

This test is not easy, not by a long shot. Intermediate to advanced skills in my humble opinion. It takes work, it takes consistency and time.

Ben went from his owner being able to only take one step during the stay, to her being able to walk away and hold duration for a long time!

Theo has worked so hard to overcome his exuberance when greeting everyone, because to him a friend is just a stranger you haven't met yet! He did all aspects of the test beautifully with no jumping.

Congratulations to Ben and Theo!!

I'm an advocate for probiotics for dogs. A tip though, rotate the brand a couple of times a year. (Learned that tip from Mud Bay). Dogs weren't meant to digest dog food. Their gut needs help.

I don't do edible chews often but I'm very careful when I do. No rawhide. This brand is good for allergies which 2 of my dogs have. It's all just water buffalo. I wanted to get them all a special treat.

As far as treats, my dogs only get treats for training practice or when we are off property (not at home). I rotate between freeze dried, meat/cheese, meal toppers, or a food roll like fresh pet. Traditional store bought treats can cause digestive upset. Remember keep high value special so they can focus on you when you need it in high distraction places.

I am so grateful for all of the people and dogs I get to work with. I just had to take this beautiful photo tonight. Pippy had a field trip. As a team, we worked on some skills at home and her owner put in the practice and we took the skills on the road.

My Max, the pup who made me a trainer. He and I share the same birth month. He turns 7 this week.

Out here living his best life today!

I am grateful to him for creating the drive in me to research the globe to help him and other dogs like him. I have taken and continue to take as many courses and learn from as many trainers as possible internationally when it comes to pups like Max.

Two biggest influences on how I train today for dogs like him. Grisha Stewart (B.A.T) is where I learned the importance of a longline and creating space. Emma Parsons (Karen Pryor Academy) Click to Calm methodology, how to help when triggers are present.

Today I am so thankful for clicker training!

Specifically Emma Parsons "click to calm" methodology. I have studied her book in detail, taken classes for instructors from her through Karen Pryor Academy.

This was our first field trip to a public place with other people and dogs on trails.

What's important here is giving the option of choice.

We gave Ozzy the option of space.

There were certain people/dogs he was completely fine passing. He even introduced himself to a child and several other people. But it was his choice. For those he said no, we politely declined.

There was one specific time he looked at oncoming travelers and asked for space. I showed the owner that he asked for space and we honored that.

Remember tension on the leash at the wrong time or being too close to something oncoming that makes the dog uncomfortable can be the difference between an explosion or not.

The dog must trust the person on the other end of the lead. The leash can create frustration, feeling trapped, shut down, unheard.
