๐Ÿฑ Like every other cat advocacy organization, we are receiving an overwhelming volume of calls from individuals seeking our assistance in rescuing or finding homes for kittens they have discovered or for kittens born to community cats they feed. ๐Ÿ˜” Regrettably, we lack the necessary foster homes and resources to accommodate these kittens and facilitate their adoption. ๐Ÿ˜ข Additionally, city/county shelters in the region are operating at full capacity and cannot accommodate more cats. ๐Ÿข
๐Ÿพ During kitten season, the number of kittens in need of homes surpasses the available resources. This situation emphasizes the significance of spaying and neutering cats before they reproduce. ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿˆ It is crucial for everyone, including those with pet cats and those who come across stray cats, to have them spayed or neutered. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ By addressing this underlying issue, we can help prevent the creation of future colonies even if the kittens are rehomed without entering shelters. ๐Ÿ  Remember, Animal Outreach of Shelby County offers FREE spay/neuter of outside cats for exactly this reason. ๐Ÿ’™
๐Ÿพ If you encounter kittens outdoors, refer to the decision tree attached ๐ŸŒณ to determine their age and find the best course of action to ensure they do not contribute to the growth of feral cat populations. ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿˆ We acknowledge that we cannot shoulder this responsibility alone, and it is essential for the community to do their part! ๐Ÿ™

Meet Forrest ๐Ÿงกโ€”a 9-year old orange tabby with a gentle soul and a tender heart. Forrest has had a tough time finding his forever home, probably because heโ€™s a little shy around strangers and has been moved from place to place, meeting lots of new people along the way.

Recently, when his foster mom reconnected with him, Forrest hugged into her and refused to let her set him downโ€”a perfect reminder of the affectionate, loving cat he truly is once he feels safe.

Forrest has experienced some big changes, including the loss of his home and the loss of his bonded friend while in the shelter, so heโ€™s navigating a new chapter and will need a patient, understanding home where he can feel secure again.

He may be shy at firstโ€”especially around men, other cats, and sudden noises-but once he warms up, his affectionate side shines bright. He loves head rubs and scratches and will happily nuzzle your hand when offered. ๐Ÿ’›

At bedtime, Forrest shows just how sweet he can be: he enjoys sleeping in bed with his foster mom, alternating between cozy snuggles right beside her and stretching out at the foot of the bed. He also adores cardboard scratching pads, which are one of his favorite comforts.

Forrest would thrive in a calm, quiet home with someone willing to give him time, gentleness, and reassurance. In return, heโ€™ll reward you with soft snuggles, loyal companionship, and the kind of love only a grateful, gentle cat can give.
