Amen!

"Where sin abounded, grace abounded more." (Romans 5:20)

The Bible is clear that sin is objectively wrong, in direct opposition to God's holiness, and deserves judgment. Any teacher or church who wants to downplay the significance of sin is in danger of misrepresenting God's Word and will lead many astray.

But as much as the Bible is clear about sin, it is also clear about the abundant grace of God. While sin causes death and separation, His grace brings life and reconciliation.

Sometimes we like to think that sin and grace are two equals, battling it out for your soul in a back-and-forth tug of war. This dualist view says that God and Satan are evenly matched. But the reality is that the goodness of God's grace is so much more powerful than the wickedness of sin. 1st John 4:4 says that "You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world."

So that was the inspiration for this simple piece: That sin wants rule and reign over our lives, but we have access to something so much larger and greater.

The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 5:20-21)
