Wildrose Kennels - Midwest is a branch of the nation's oldest and most selective breeder & trainer of British Labradors. Our dogs are bred to have the unique characteristics of a true Gentleman's Gun Dog - very steady and obedient in the house and driven and focused in the field. The skills that we teach our dogs make them equally as capable at kayaking and mountain biking with you as they do exc

eptional hunting dogs. What makes Wildrose Unique?

1. OUR DOGS - Wildrose very carefully selects the breeding for all of our dogs to ensure finest Gentleman's gun dog. We begin the process of finding you the right dog by understanding your lifestyle and expectations. From there we select a breeding that is most likely to deliver the type of puppy you are looking for. Whether it be superior game finding capabilities, or a diabetic alert dog, our breeding stock is sure to have something that fits your needs.

2. OUR TRAINING - At Wildrose Kennels, we believe in 100% positive training. Starting the day the puppies are brought home, we are entrenching behaviors and trust that results in your dog wanting to perform, not because they "have to", but because they want to please you. There is no stronger drive or reward than this relationship between dog and owner. We offer 4 different, in-house, training programs; backgrounding and puppy to training, basic gundog training, finished gun dog training, and adventure dog training.

3. OUR PEOPLE - At Wildrose Midwest, we are fortunate to have some of Wildrose Kennel's most respected Associate Trainers. Our trainers are actively training dogs in all stages - puppies, started dogs and finished dogs. Our trainers also help staff our workshops where you can come and learn how to apply the Wildrose Way to your own training.

4. THE WILDROSE FAMILY - Your experience with Wildrose does not end the day that you pick up your puppy - quite the contrary, it is just beginning. We believe in open training and share all of our training methodologies with our clients. We also provide many different on-line resources for you to learn from. However, the best part is when our Wildrose family gets together for training events, workshops and trips. Client relationships are something that we treasure and work hard to maintain.

Wildrose Midwest had a great client group training day this morning. We started out with strike back training with two pointers and four labs. Three of the labs had never done this before and got to experience some great new learning. The pointers were awesome in how they performed. Then we moved into more traditional training with a complicated wagon, wheel drill, hub and spoke drills in difficult flooded marsh conditions. After a complete morning of training, it was time for bratwurst and burgers, followed by our fastest dog contest. Everybody threw in a dollar and each dog ran a 75 yard trailing memory for a total of 150 yards. Dogs were timed by our neutral judge, David. In third place, with the time of 17.76 seconds was Abby. In second place, with the time of 16.66 seconds, was Paddy with one of our Canadian customers, dogs And in first place, edging Paddyy out by 1/100 of a second was Wiggle, another finished dog going up to one of our Canadian customers. Congratulations to Wiggle and his handler Marty Dalton, our kennel manager, for taking home “the purse”. This is an easy and fun drill to set up. Hit reply and let us know what your times are.

Brothers Bo and Nelson (Brooke x Grouse) at the vet today for 2nd round boosters. Everyone commented on how calm they are and how unusual it is to see such a young dog sitting patiently. Bo even lost a puppy tooth in the exam table earning him an extra treat with dinner tonight!

Young Millie (12 weeks) is having a great time getting to be a puppy out in the field and doesn't even realize she is beginning to learn the basic fundamentals of quartering.

The best learning takes place when the dog is having fun and puts the pieces together all on their own!

The value of teaching the “loss” command.

Yesterday, I was doing some training with Wildrose Duke in the flooded timber. When I threw the bumper, I could hear it plug deep in the mud. When he was hunting in the area, he stomped it further down in the mud. As he was working the area, I excitedly gave him the loss command. His only option was to out his head under the mud to grab it. FYI, Duke is a yellow lab!

You’ve got to love the heart and drive of A Wikdrose lab.
