The next seven bunnies from Arizona are this mama and some of the babies from two separate litters.

Apparently mom, dad and the first litter of six babies were dumped at a park back in May. Shortly after catching them mama gave birth to a second litter.

Some of the babies from the first litter went to another rescue a while back, but the person who caught all of these bunnies and was desperate for help with the rest. They were getting older and it was becoming more and more difficult to keep genders separate and care for everyone.

Thankfully they did a great job caring for these bunnies and they are all happy, healthy and friendly. And those kind people made a generous donation to help with their care as well. They’ll get spayed and neutered and get to find forever homes soon!

Over the weekend a friend transported NINE bunnies from Arizona who desperately needed help and had no where else to go. The people who had them had reached out to some other local rescues but were unable to get the help they needed, which lead them to us since we still have a presence there.

The first bunny is Alfert, who has a broken leg.

Unfortunately, that leg was broken for at least two weeks before we were notified about him. He did not see a vet during that time and the family unfortunately had no idea how to handle or care for him even before the injury. They were scared to touch him and hurt him more but couldn’t afford a vet either.

We knew we were looking at a likely amputation when we agreed to take him. He had a scab on his leg that I was very worried was exposed bone but luckily it isn’t. Most likely it’s from him over grooming that spot when the injury was fresh and very painful.

However, he is doing remarkably well and the leg has essentially stabilized for the moment. Bloodwork shows no infection and he doesn’t act like he is in pain at all. Basically, we are at a point of “wait and see” for a few weeks - under vet observation of course!

If he continues to thrive, the skin isn’t irritated, the bones stay stable etc. then he’ll just keep the “wonky” leg. If anything changes and the leg is bothering him, we’ll amputate.

Keeping the leg reduces likelihood of severe arthritis later on in life, since he’ll still have some support in the bad leg. However, it can also mean he is more likely to get pressure sores where the leg touches the ground unnaturally. There really isn’t a perfect solution besides going back in time and setting the leg when the break was fresh, so we’ll just have to see where the next few weeks take us.

If you want to help support Alfert’s vet costs it would be so appreciated!! Even a dollar makes a huge difference! 🙏

Several days ago we took in these two bunnies and a guinea pig from our friends at P.A.W.S. (Pauls Valley Animal Welfare Society).

The bunnies are from an ongoing situation where many rabbits are having to be trapped. It’s a complicated situation with lots of breeding going on. We’ll hopefully be able to save more as they are able to be caught. It’s definitely not for lack of trying!

For now though, this roughly four week old baby girl and this 3-4 month old baby boy are safe - and not to mention absolutely adorable! I’m sorry, but there is nothing cuter in this world than a baby rew rabbit, and you’ll never convince me otherwise.
What should we name them?

As for the piggie - she is already adopted! She went straight to a foster and the little girl of the family decided she was in love because this piggie licks her! Clearly meant to be.

Remember this baby we picked up from a Kansas humane society because she was on the euthanasia list for aggression? Yeah, she’s clearly real vicious 🙄

Most of the time, when a rabbit is displaying signs of aggression it is because they are scared, distressed, in pain etc. If you’re reaching in and grabbing at a clearly scared animal it is well within their rights to defend themselves. They cannot talk so it’s up to you to read body language and determine cause of defensive behavior. The first thing you should do is assess what you can do to help them relax before you go sticking an “aggressive” label on them.

Someone bought this precious girl from a reptile expo because they feared she would end up in the wrong hands. They did ask me before doing it and I let them know that if they wanted to, I’d take her in - because I’m an absolute sucker for rex rabbits 🙈

I don’t normally encourage buying rabbits to save them, because they will always be replaced with more rabbits to sell, but sometimes it’s necessary and worth it. At least this bunny that was saved will get to live a full life, and to this bunny that means everything.

Maybe you’ll agree with my decision, maybe you won’t and honestly I’ll understand either reaction. I don’t even know if I fully agreed with my decision or not until I met her. She’s simply too full of life to be snake food or be bred over and over again.

She’s happy to be here, so I’m happy she is too. 🩷

*We do require all bunnies to live indoors and their enclosures must meet the US house rabbit requirement of a 16sqft of space. We have new and used puppy pens for sale that work great if needed.

Almost forgot to post about this cutie we took in over a week ago! This is Rocky and his owner sadly had to surrender him because she was moving out of the country. He is sweet, handsome and ready to find his forever home!

He’ll be posted for adoption before morning, along with A LOT of other bunnies. Stay tuned!

We had multiple bunny dates and adoptions yesterday! It was a busy busy day, but the kind of day that just fills my soul and reminds me why I do what I do. I just love bunnies and people who love bunnies ❤️

Two bunnies went to their new homes yesterday -

Woody was adopted by a previous adopter and will now be known as Forest Thump. Seriously how have I never heard that one before, I thought it was so funny and clever!

And then Tzatziki went home with a family where he can be absolutely spoiled as a single bunny for now since he seems to have a preference for that lifestyle. His new name is Rainbows and honestly, that fits him perfectly because he is such a bright, happy soul. I don’t think they originally planned to take home a red eyed bunny but he won them over very fast. I just love when people see the red eyed bunnies for the perfect angels that they are.

Hopefully I’ll get some update pictures to post as they all get settled in their new homes!

And three more bunnies will be going home soon too if bonding goes as planned, including Boba and Baja Blast in the trio bunny date pictured 🤞

I am almost caught up, finally, with posting rabbits we have recently taken in, and then I plan to post all of the new adoptable bunny profiles tomorrow too.

For now, meet yet another bunny that was brought into the Claremore shelter. This makes the fourth bunny, two of whom were in really rough shape (Phantom and Beethoven). Thankfully, this girl seems to be very healthy.

What should we name her?

Update: Official name is Minky! ❤️

We need more name suggestions! 📣

I want to some really creative, funny, witty or bizarre stuff here, folks. Something you would maybe not consider naming your own bunny but that would make you double take when scrolling past adoptable bunnies.

All three of these *boys* were found by a lovely lady in Lawton. She not only trapped all three of them, but drove an hour to meet me, twice, to make sure they got into good hands.

I believe the two blue-eyed boys must be brothers and she saw them together a lot. They were absolutely not friends with the little brown lionhead mix whom she thinks was dumped by a different neighbor, probably because they saw the brothers and thought it would be fine.

News flash - never fine! Domestic bunnies cannot survive long in the wild because they are not native wild animals in the US. I know I’m a broken record but parasites, predators, cars, viruses, bacteria, bad weather and dehydration can all easily kill released rabbits. Never ever dump a pet of any kind!

If you want to support these boys and the many other rabbits we help, please consider sending a little donation their way and don’t forget to leave name suggestions!

Update: I loved so many of these names but someone recommended Milky Way, Stardust and Asteroid on Instagram and I can’t explain why but they fit perfectly, so those are their new names! I will be stealing names from your suggestions for other bunnies too 🤭
