Wow I guess you really know when a post is being seen by the algorithm when breeders start chiming in with their two cents 🙄
Here are some FACTS about rescue for those who want to make posts like this and have no concept of how rescues actually operate and why we need donations:
1. We take in animals that breeders sell to the public and then the public turns around and dumps, abuses, can no longer afford, were not prepared for etc. Along with animals from domestic violence situations or homes where their humans are facing devastating health issues. Pray tell, if not rescues, where do these animals go?? You keep breeding more regardless of how many animals lose their homes, which means the overflow has to go somewhere.
2. We do not CHOOSE for animals to be dumped or abused or otherwise losing their home. We are fulfilling a community need by taking them in! That is the reason the community then turns around and chooses to donate. We are transparent with what that money is being used for it. Trust and believe, we ain’t getting rich.
3. In an ideal world it should be the breeder or pet owner who pays for these animals since they produced or purchased the animals, but they aren’t stepping up. As much as I’d love to track down every breeder who produced every animal and have them take on the financial responsibility they created, it’s not possible. Breeding isn’t regulated or monitored in any way.
4. You mention euthanizing any animal who has been in a shelter for more than 6 months. Insane take but let’s go with it for a moment - Who pays for the food, shelter, enrichment, temperature control, water etc during those 6 months? Who pays for the euthanasia after those 6 months? Even with your “perfect plan”for pet population control someone has to step up and pay for all the pets that get abandoned, or deal with the consequences.
5. What are the consequences of having no rescues or shelters? Well, all abandoned animals are left roaming the streets.
•The animals are dying slowly from hunger or parasites.
•They are being public nuisances peeing on everything, digging up yards etc (just ask anyone with a feral cat colony near them).
•The number of abandoned animals is ever increasing from constant breeding.
•The number of rabies cases is going through the roof because of the lack of vaccinations.
•They are constantly being hit by cars causing public funds to be used for road cleanup.
•They are spreading bacteria and viruses at rapid rates and increasing likelihood of humans being affected.
6. Roughly 6 MILLION animals end up in shelters every year. Do you think all of them deserve to just be euthanized immediately rather than given a chance at a new home? If not, someone has to pay! Even if you do just want them all euthanized, someone has to pay for that too! And if you are so callous about their lives to begin with STOP BREEDING MORE!
7. Vets exist for a reason. Just because a breeder like this “culls” (k*lls at home themselves) any animal that is sick, doesn’t meet the arbitrary standards their fellow breeders set or has a mild disability etc. does not mean everyone else has to. I feel sorry that you don’t value animal life in the slightest (and yet produce so much of it) and think disabilities make life unworthy of living. Ending an animal’s life is simply not better than getting vet care to prolong that life. And newsflash, we DO humanely euthanize when quality of life is not there!!
8. Your rabbits live in what you call a “hole” because it’s basically just that. Tiny wire cage with no enrichment and minimal interaction outside being bred. Our rescues live in palaces comparatively. Toys, diet variety, affection IF they want it and space to run, stretch, binky and play. I bet your bunnies will never get to binky in their lives. So I’ll take all the criticism and the judgment with honor, because I know what I’m doing benefits the entire community, but more importantly every animal who is lucky enough to be here instead of with you. 😘
