Don’t worry…I’m fine because I have the best clients and patients anyone could ask for, but the lesson here does not just apply to vet med professionals. You never know what anyone else is carrying or going through so it is always necessary to be kind first….above all else. That is all… Carry on and have a wonderful Thursday!

NOMV — Not One More Vet.

Four letters that carry an incredible amount of weight.

Having spent more than 30 years in the veterinary profession as a technician, I know firsthand what happens behind those exam-room doors.

The 12-hour days. No lunch. No break. Sometimes a spoonful of peanut butter grabbed in passing is what carries you through the next emergency.

But the physical exhaustion is only part of it.

There is an enormous emotional responsibility in getting it right.

Veterinarians make decisions every day that carry tremendous weight—choosing the right diagnostics, determining the right treatment, guiding frightened families through critical cases, and sometimes having to tell someone that the kindest thing they can do is let their beloved animal go.

They absorb the fear and grief, put their own emotions aside, and walk into the next exam room and begin again.

And today, there is another layer: social media.

A mistake, disagreement or outcome someone doesn’t understand can become a public attack within minutes. Nameless, faceless people can say things from behind a screen they would never say standing across from another human being. Sometimes that criticism even comes from within our own profession.

Words matter.

You never truly know what another person is carrying. Exhaustion, compassion fatigue, grief, pressure, isolation and relentless criticism can converge into a devastating perfect storm.

Veterinary su***de is not something we can afford to whisper about.

Mental health is real. Compassion fatigue is real. Burnout is real. And the human beings caring for our animals need care, too.

The people who fight for our animals when they’re sick and stand beside us when we have to say goodbye deserve our compassion, too.

We can disagree without destroying someone.
We can ask questions without attacking.
We can hold people accountable without forgetting their humanity.

This has to change.

Take care of the people who take care of our animals.

Check on your veterinarian.
Check on your technicians.
Check on your colleagues.

I have been saying this for years! I have more grain free and raw fed dogs than most clinics and I RARELY see DCM, and when I do it is in the more common breeds predisposed to it. This is why I preach diet rotation and making sure even homemade diets are balanced.

🚨 A HUGE NEW STUDY IS CHALLENGING WHAT PET PARENTS HAVE BEEN TOLD ABOUT GRAIN-FREE DOG FOOD.

A 2026 Veterinary Medicine and Science study analyzed Dog Aging Project data from 47,000+ dogs and found grain-free diets were NOT associated with increased odds of developing new heart problems.

🤯 More than HALF of owners who reported feeding grain-free were WRONG when researchers checked the ingredients. Foods that sounded grain-free actually contained rice, corn, wheat, barley or oats.

Researchers also followed 7,113 dogs for two years. Dogs that switched to grain-free had FEWER newly reported heart diagnoses than dogs that never ate grain-free, while dogs consistently eating grain-free showed no significant difference.

Both grain-free AND grain-containing foods can contribute to nutritional DCM. So can poorly formulated raw and homemade diets.

Peas, lentils and potatoes aren’t inherently “bad,” and adding grains does NOT magically make food cardioprotective—there’s ZERO taurine in grains!

The bigger question is whether the finished food provides enough bioavailable protein and essential amino acids for the dog eating it.

And here’s the overlooked problem: AAFCO “all life stages” foods meet nutrient requirements for growth and reproduction, but adult dogs often need far fewer calories than growing puppies.

So owners feed less to prevent obesity. But when you cut food, you don’t just cut calories—you cut protein, amino acids, vitamins and minerals too.

A food can meet AAFCO requirements on paper, yet a lower-calorie dog eating less receives less of EVERY nutrient, not to mention some dogs genetically don’t make enough taurine for heart health.

🐕 The question isn’t “grain-free or grain-inclusive?”

It’s: Is THIS dog getting enough protein, essential amino acids and other critical nutrients for the calories they actually consume? That’s the nutritional DCM conversation we should be having.

Calories change. Nutrient needs don’t.

KITTENS!! Who is looking for kittens??? We have a client that has been over run with kittens. She has been working feverishly to get them and the moms all in to get spayed and neutered….but she needs to find homes. These are all from cats that showed up or were dumped on her farm and she is amazing to take this all on so if we can help her find them good homes that would help her out a ton. Many of the kittens are 4 months or older. She has battled some respiratory infections and eye infections along the way, but they are improving nicely.

*****Anyone that is interested can call the clinic and we will get you in touch with her.*****

Thank you in advance! Now let’s find some homes!
