Just because I’m on leave doesn’t mean clients have slowed down with their dogs at all!

I got fantastic news that Sadie Payton (black lab) earned her DCAT today! With a PR of 7.65 seconds

Boots earned his BCAT today with a best time of 8.15.

I couldn’t be more proud of the both of them. I can’t wait to be back out with you both

You might have noticed we haven’t posted as much… well we welcomed our first 2 legged kid to our pack and couldn’t be more in love with her.

My dogs have been amazing with her but that does mean training your wonderful dogs will take a short break. I’ll do my best to continue to post and get back to everyone to schedule training once I’m back.

BOARDING IS OPEN. Adam and Mikayla have been doing a fantastic job helping with boarding dogs so make sure everything runs smoothly, be sure to still message me to reserve dates.

Christmas in…. March?

We got our beds for the kennel!! Each of our 15 runs will have a kurandadogbeds bed.
As always if your dog is safe with fluffy bedding and you’d like to bring your own you ABSOLUTELY CAN.
But for a few of our friends can’t and we wanted to make sure they had comfy place to snuggle in.

Thank you Mikayla for sitting on the floor for hours to assemble them all before boarding picks up at the end of the month.

Nykie came to help Milton’s training on Monday.
Milton is a very excitable young Aussie and his mom is CRUSHING it with him. She’s done such a fabulous job helping him to do his best.
He’s a dog that wants to be friends with everyone/every dog he meets. Sorry buddy but that can be rude.

We worked on focus on mom with the distraction of Nykie close by. He did wonderful. He wasn’t happy not making a friend but it was so important for him to engage with his mom instead of the dog.

This is also where having a neutral dog really comes in handy!

With a ton of dogs going out to potty and the mud season starting every dog comes in to do the foot wipe “dance” on our muddymat

This has been a lifesaver for keeping floors clean.

See all those silly tricks pay off!
I cannot recommend the enough for this alone!

Puppy class has had their second outing and they handled it like seasoned pros! They surprised the heck out of me for sure. Two puppies. Under 9months old, holding a sit stay with backs to each other then recalling away. Impressed me for sure. This group has me wanting to do so much more with them.

Training tip Tuesday
Don’t bother your puppies when they are eating,

We want to avoid food guarding, I don’t bother my dogs while they are eating. (I don’t want to be bothered while I’m eating either) Most times they are eating in their crates in their safe space. If they are out in the house I feed then go do something else in that same space.
If I do come over to a young dog while they are eating it’s only ever to ADD value by putting MORE food into their bowls and the walking away.

We had a GIANT group class last night and my goodness did they do spectacular.
We combined both Thursday classes and had 14 dogs total (we were missing 5 due to absences) everyone was on their best behavior. We warmed up our heeling a lot to get everyone focused and it was nice to hear all the complements from everyone else enjoying the mall.

Didn’t work on anything too crazy but please enjoy a few moments of our down practice. I could tell after lots of brain work they needed a little time to do more of “nothing”

These guys never fail to impress me.

Training Tip Tuesday (Wednesday)

As our seasons change and training schedules can look differently depending on the time of year we take our dogs fitness and health seriously.

We don’t want our dogs to pack on pounds in the months we aren’t as active so that responsibility relies on us as owners to adjust what they are taking in for calories,
From both treats and their daily meals. When you look at your food bag there is a suggested feeding per day. Just like humans dogs can have all different metabolisms, and activity levels. That’s what the bag is, a suggestion. We have to look at what our dogs look like and make adjustments.

Throughout the year my own dogs can fluctuate from getting 1-6 cups a day of kibble for the same dog depending on the time of year. I make sure to look at what their body looks like and change the amount according to the dog, not my bag.
Days they were more active and seem a little “thinner” they get more. Days we are couch potato’s they get less. It’s a balancing act for sure but important to understand and be able to keep our dogs around as long as they can be.
