Got one set up with snow rim pads and tungsten heel cleats. He will be pulling a skier in a Skijoring race in a couple weeks! This should help him get a little more traction and prevent snow balls from forming in his feet.

This pony, like many I see, has metabolic issues. This has caused a few bouts with founder. My goal here was to take as much heel as possible to correct his coffin bone rotation. I didn’t take any depth from the toe, but did eliminate as much of the dead seedy laminar wedge as I could without hitting sensitive tissue. Keeping this pony on this trimming regimen every 4-5 weeks will really improve his soundness and promote healthy hoof growth.

DID YOU KNOW...

-for every 1 centimeter of extra toe length- this results in an extra 50 kilograms of force acting on the tendons

-1 degree drop in sole angle where the DDFT inserts into the coffin bone (affected by Palmar Angle) can lead to a 4% increase in the pressure exerted by the DDFT on the Navicular bone

These simple facts highlight how important it is to keep your horses on tight shoeing schedule and receive correct trimming/shoeing to give them a long and successful career.

This horse had under run contracted heels due to a combination of conformation and improper trimming and was showing slight heel pain. I set him up with 2 degree wedged bar pad partnered with a center fit natural balance shoe to decrease leverage and and improve break over. Horse is showing positive results!
