We're excited to officially introduce the Pips 'n Chicks Virtual Show Platform!

What started as a way to host our own virtual poultry shows has grown into something much bigger. The platform can now be used by breed clubs, livestock organizations, youth groups, fundraisers, and hobby communities looking to host their own virtual judging.

A huge thank you goes out to Cold Cocked Gamefowl for being the first to host a show on the new platform, it's great to see more poultry groups working to fundraise and connect with other breeders.

Interested in hosting a virtual show of your own?

We can accommodate poultry, rabbits, livestock, and many other species. Just send me a message and I'll help get everything set up and organized so your event runs smoothly from start to finish.

Skills so good, SpaceX wants to hire me...if you've been waiting for a response, this past week I was down in Bloomington IL for the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers' tractor competition. We built a tractor from the ground up given nothing but tires and an engine.
It was one of the most technical pieces of Engineering that I've ever done. We rebuilt the drive train alone over three times in two days. The SpaceX recruiter watched our defense of design and technical presentation then found me afterwards to ask if I wanted a job!
Next time you use a tractor, take a second to appreciate just how complex they are and how much time and skill goes into every single part of it. I will be more available this week to catch up on emails and posts, thank you everyone for being patient :)

So crazy to think that two years ago, I was focused on surviving my physics classes and had no clue where I wanted to go, other than I wanted animals again.

Now, I just graduated with my engineering degree, having spent the past two years at the most amazing farm, building this stuff, and looking at properties thinking about where all of this is going to lead long term.

A little overwhelming honestly, but so exciting too!

UPDATE: Still several thousand left yesterday from the sounds of it. Will edit as soon as I hear numbers. It doesn't let me tag the farmer, but there were people there to help load birds if needed.

Again, they are asking $2.00 to cover costs. $1.00 if you take more than 500. Anyone that raises birds knows this is much less than the hens are worth. They need to be gone by the end of this week.

Huge thank you to the American Índio Gigante Breeders Association (AÍGBA) for becoming a Silver Sponsor for this year’s virtual show.

They’re newer to the scene, and I’m really excited to have them involved and helping support the poultry community in this way.

Sponsors are what make this show possible. They help cover judging, awards, and everything that goes into keeping the event running year after year, and I genuinely appreciate the people and organizations stepping up to support it.

Please take a moment to check them out and show them some support as well.

And if you or a business you know would like to become a sponsor for this year’s show, we’re still looking for additional sponsors:

Two years ago, we helped coordinate finding places for meat chickens in WI.... Now we have another in IA-this time with egg layers. There are 6,000 hens under a year old (laying prime) that need to go. Sounds like it's contract issues again-egg prices are simply too low.

Farmers are asking $2.00 to cover costs. $1.00 if you take more than 500. Anyone that raises birds knows this is much less than the hens are worth.

FB, do your thing! Go pick up birds!

Shout out to the ACBA (American Coturnix Breeders Association) for sponsoring six separate awards for the 2026 Virtual Show!

They sponsored the Champion and Reserve Champion quail awards for both youth and open, as well as the AOM and Wildtype best in class awards for both youth and open. The ACBA has been a fundamental part of this show - they set the standard of perfection for quail, and are working on color standards. Likewise, we work as a "pilot", figuring out what classes and categories work well for in person shows.

This show does count for ACBA points if you are a member. Get those quail entries in, let's have a good representation this year! Submit entries here: https://virtual-show-pipsnchicks.replit.app/show/18

Thank you to the show committee and the ACBA for their continued support for the show! We are always looking for more sponsors, if you would like to contribute, see the details here: https://virtual-show-pipsnchicks.replit.app/show/18/support

One thing I've noticed once I started working with other species: the "smaller the bird, the more the drama" is completely true. Not because I hate on little animals - I love working with my quail so much! - but because bigger animals are an investment.

On the quail side, you can go from setting a dozen eggs to running a 100+ bird operation in a matter of four months for just about the cost of feed. There's little skin in the game, you gain "experience" quickly and fade just as quick. Everyone is vying to set themselves apart from every other person on the internet who started less than a year ago.

On the cattle side, to get to 100 cattle you need to have $100,000 on hand plus a half million dollar set up in terms of barns and land. The cost alone means that if you run cattle, you are serious (or have a *lot* of money to spend). There's much less need to prove yourself.

If you want to set yourself apart in the small animal world and get away from the drama, you need to treat them like large animals. Treat them like an investment. Build your records right, make the inperson connections, learn as you go, and stop trying to compare yourself or be friends with everyone around you. It's farming on every level. Treat each other like it.
