❤️ $5 FRIDAY: HELP US GIVE THIS LITTLE SURVIVOR A SECOND CHANCE! ❤️

Last week, we received a call from a kind woman who had discovered a beautiful little bird in the woods near her home, struggling to get around on just one leg.

The bird was a Chukar Partridge, a species commonly raised in captivity for meat and hunting. We don’t know how this little fellow ended up alone in the woods, but somehow he had survived despite a terribly injured leg.

Thankfully, the woman was able to catch him and bring him to Hope Haven Farm Sanctuary, where we discovered that his upper leg was severely fractured. Sadly, the injury is beyond repair, and the useless leg is now dragging painfully behind him.

His best chance at a comfortable life is amputation. ❤️

We’re hoping to have his surgery performed this Sunday. Surgery on such a small bird carries significant risks, and we know there’s no guarantee of a successful outcome. But this little guy has already fought so hard to survive, and we want to give him every possible chance.

If all goes well, we’ll create a special habitat just for him, where he can enjoy the sights and sounds of our other feathered residents. And hopefully, someday, we’ll even find him a few Chukar friends of his own!

This $5 Friday, we’re asking for your help covering his surgical and medical expenses. Every $5 donation brings us closer to giving this brave little bird the chance at a happy, comfortable life that he deserves.

He’s made it this far. We’re hoping the next chapter of his story is the very best one yet. ❤️

Yesterday, I arrived at the farm and noticed the alpaca herd out in the pasture, but little Tada was nowhere to be seen. That was unusual.

As I walked out of the barn, I spotted something near the fence line beneath a tree. A tiny, fluffy white form, as still as stone.

My heart clenched.

I started walking toward her, and as I did, the entire herd turned to watch me. They must have sensed my alarm because they, too, began hurrying toward the little white lump beneath the tree.

I broke into a run, fearing the worst.

And there she was.

Little Tada, completely oblivious to the panic unfolding around her, blissfully sound asleep in a patch of sunshine filtering through the branches overhead.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen an animal sleeping so peacefully!

By then, the herd had gathered, apparently concerned about what had sent me racing across the pasture.

And when our little sleeping beauty finally stirred, she simply stood up, gave a leisurely stretch, and trotted off with her family to enjoy the afternoon.

Meanwhile, I was left standing there trying to get my heart rate back to normal.

Just another day at the Haven! ❤️

Our two Great Pyrennes dogs, Richard and Pinky, are worth their weight in gold! ❤️🐾

These devoted guardians take their jobs protecting our rescued farm crew from predators VERY seriously. But apparently, there’s one thing they take just as seriously… NAP TIME. 😴

And considering how hard they work keeping everyone safe, we think they’ve earned it. ❤️🐾

Roosters, roosters, and more roosters! 🐓

At Hope Haven, we’re inundated with requests from people looking to rehome their roosters. One way we try to help is by creating bachelor groups, affectionately known as our “bro coops!”

Believe it or not, roosters can often live quite peacefully together, especially when there are no hens nearby to compete over.

This ridiculously handsome Polish rooster is happily sharing his bachelor pad with two other big boys, and the three are getting along fabulously!

Who says a bunch of guys can’t live together in harmony? ❤️

Keebler and Keplin, two Shetland sheep babies, were born into a heartbreaking neglect case where many newborns struggled to survive. Given a fresh start at Hope Haven, these two cuties have blossomed into happy, healthy sheep who bring so much joy to the farm!

Someone recently asked how Pukwudgie, our new alpaca, is doing, so we thought it was time for a little update!

Puk and Kelpie came to Hope Haven several months ago through the auction pipeline, both in terrible condition and desperately in need of some TLC. Kelpie, of course, surprised us by giving birth shortly after arriving, while Puk presented us with an entirely different challenge: a rather passionate dislike of humans.

Over time, he had been making some encouraging progress in learning to trust us. Unfortunately, fast-forward to today, and our grumpy friend has taken a few steps backward. Not only has he decided that humans are still highly overrated, but he’s also made it abundantly clear that he’s not particularly fond of Joe Chip, our resident male alpaca.

So, for everyone’s safety, sanity, and desire not to be perpetually covered in alpaca spit, Puk has taken up residence with our sheep flock. Thankfully, the sheep have welcomed him, and he’s begrudgingly settled into bachelor life.

Both boys have been neutered, so we’re hopeful that once their hormones have settled, we might be able to attempt another introduction.

As for Pukwudgie ever deciding that I might actually be worthy of his friendship? I’m not holding my breath…. 😂
