Cats hissing, chasing, or hiding from each other? You can help them feel safe together again! Start with a gradual reintroduction instead of forcing them to share space.

Give each cat a separate comfortable room with food, water, a litter box, and somewhere to hide. Once both are relaxed, exchange their bedding so they can investigate each other’s scent without a confrontation. Wait until neither reacts with tension before moving forward.

Next, try short play sessions on opposite sides of a closed door. Once both are comfortable, introduce brief views through a secure screen barrier, pairing the experience with favorite treats or play. This helps build positive associations with each other.

Relaxed bodies and the ability to look away are progress! Hissing, fixed staring, or crouching mean stop the session and return to an easier step. Let their comfort set the pace.

Is your cat suddenly peeing outside the litter box? Before you get frustrated, remember this is usually your cat telling you something isn’t right.

Start by ruling out a medical issue, especially if the behavior appeared suddenly. Then take a hard look at the litter box setup. Scoop it every day, use unscented litter, keep the box somewhere quiet and easy to reach, and if you have multiple cats, a good rule is one litter box per cat plus one extra. Clean previous accident spots with an enzymatic cleaner so the smell doesn’t keep drawing them back. Most importantly, don’t punish them. That can increase stress and make the problem worse.

Sometimes a few simple changes can completely change the behavior. And when the answer isn’t obvious, that’s where a closer look at your cat’s routine, environment, and stress triggers can make all the difference.

Has your cat suddenly become clingier, louder, restless, destructive, or started having litter box issues? A sudden change in your daily routine can throw your cat off more than you might realize.

Keep feeding and playtimes consistent, give them puzzle feeders or toys while you’re gone, provide safe hiding and climbing spaces, and spend 10 to 15 minutes on active play before leaving and again when you get home. If the behavior change is sudden or severe, always rule out a medical issue with your veterinarian first.

Furrocity Feline Behavior Consulting helps you understand the reason behind the behavior so you can actually fix the problem.

Cats have their own way of speaking to us, and one of the most important things people can learn is to pay attention when their cat’s normal routine changes.

Hiding more, eating less, avoiding the litter box, grooming too much, acting more clingy, or seeming more stressed can all be your cat’s way of saying, “Something is going on.” The more we learn to read those signs with patience and love, the better we can protect their health, comfort, and happiness.

Is your cat peeing on your bed, clothes, couch, or random spots in the house?

Your cat usually is not being “bad” or trying to make you mad when doing that. A lot of times, they’re stressed, anxious, uncomfortable, or trying to tell you something is wrong. Things like dirty litter boxes, changes in the home, other animals, stress, or even medical issues can trigger this behavior.

The good news is that this problem can usually be improved once you figure out the real reason behind it.

Understanding why cats do something is the first step to fixing it the right way.

That’s what we do at Furrocity Feline Behavior Counseling. 😺 We help cat owners better understand their cats and bring peace back into the home for them and their cats.

If your cat is tearing up furniture, door frames, or carpet, they’re not being “bad”, scratching is natural for cats. :)

It helps them stretch, mark territory, and keep their claws healthy. The problem usually comes from not having the right scratching options in the right places.

Try placing scratching posts near the spots they already target, especially around sleeping areas or entrances. Different cats prefer different textures too, so test cardboard, rope, or carpet-style scratchers to see what they like best. You can also use cat-safe deterrent sprays on furniture while rewarding them anytime they use their scratching post instead.

A few small changes can save your furniture and keep your cat happy at the same time. 😺

New cat not getting along with your current cat? Hissing, hiding, or fighting can happen when introductions are rushed.

Cats are territorial. The fix is slow, controlled integration. Start with full separation. Let them get used to each other’s scent using bedding or toys. Feed them on opposite sides of a closed door. Gradually allow visual contact, then short supervised interactions. Keep everything calm and positive. No need to force it.

Done right, most cats can learn to coexist and even bond.

Excessive vocalization in cats is usually communication, not just "random meowing".

Cats often meow more due to unmet needs (hunger, boredom, attention), stress, medical issues, or learned behavior where vocalizing gets a response.

The fix starts with ruling out health concerns, then tightening structure: consistent feeding schedules, daily interactive play to burn energy, and not reinforcing attention-seeking meows. Reward quiet behavior instead of responding to noise, and create a stable, enriched environment so your cat doesn’t feel the need to “shout” to be heard.
