We hope everybody has a safe and happy 4th of July!! We are closed tomorrow for the holiday, and will resume normal hours Monday July 6th 🇺🇸

🇺🇸 Independence Day Checklist for Pets! 🐾❤️

The Fourth of July is one of the busiest (and unfortunately one of the most dangerous) holidays for pets. Every year, animal shelters see a significant increase in lost dogs and cats because frightened pets panic during fireworks and run away from home. Even the most well-trained dog can bolt when startled.

A little preparation now can make all the difference.

🐾 Keep pets indoors. Even dogs who normally enjoy spending time outside should be brought inside before fireworks begin. Close curtains or blinds to help muffle the flashes and sounds.

🏡 Create a safe space. Set up a quiet room with their favorite bed, blankets, toys, or even a TV or white noise to help mask the fireworks. Staying with your pet, if possible, can also help reduce their anxiety.

🏷️ Check ID tags and microchips. Make sure your pet’s collar fits properly, the contact information is current, and their microchip is registered with up-to-date phone numbers. If the unthinkable happens, these simple steps greatly increase the chances of a safe return.

🚪 Secure your property. Before guests arrive, double-check all gates, fences, and doors. Holiday parties mean people are constantly coming and going, and visitors may not realize that a dog or cat is waiting for the perfect opportunity to slip outside. One of the easiest ways to add an extra layer of protection is to place a baby gate inside your doorway. Even if the front door is opened unexpectedly, that extra barrier can give you precious seconds to stop your pet from escaping.

💊 Talk to your veterinarian now if your pet struggles with fireworks. Don’t wait until July 4th. Your veterinarian can discuss safe options for managing anxiety, whether that’s medication, supplements, or behavior strategies. The earlier you prepare, the better.

💧 Provide plenty of fresh water. Florida heat and holiday excitement can be a tough combination. Make sure your pets always have access to cool, clean water and a comfortable place to relax.

Our goal is for every pet to enjoy a safe holiday at home with the people who love them. A few minutes of preparation today can prevent a heartbreaking emergency tomorrow.

Have a safe, fun, and pet-friendly Independence Day! 🇺🇸❤️🐾
