We have had lots of questions about Kennel Cough lately, so I thought I’d do an educational post for pet parents!

Q: My dog has the bordatella vaccine so they can not get kennel cough, right?
A: Bordetella is the main bacteria that causes kennel cough.The vaccine does not stop all types of kennel cough, but it stops the worst parts of it.It keeps your dog from getting very sick.It lowers the chance that your dog will spread the illness to other dogs.

Q: How often should I vaccinate my dog for Kennel Cough?
A: Some types are given once a year.Other types are given every six months for dogs at high risk.Ask your vet which schedule is best for your dog's lifestyle.

Q: What are the symptoms of Kennel Cough?
A: A strong, dry, hacking cough that can sound like a honking goose. Retching or gagging, sometimes bringing up a little white foam.A runny nose or watery eyes.Mild tiredness or a lower appetite, though most dogs still play and eat normally.

We have a very strict cleaning regimen here at Golden Heart Pet for the safety of all pets in our care and we make sure all boarding animals are vaccinated prior to arrival to our facility. Your pets health and safety are our top priority here! While there is no 100% effective vaccine for Kennel cough, housing your pets in a facility that prioritizes cleaning is essential to pet health! Ollie is feeling much better after his full shave down today.
Doodles need lots of maintenance and need to be seen at the groomer at LEAST every 4-6 weeks and rigorous brushing at home DAILY so they do not get matted!
This boy is all set with a fresh start and ready to start growing his hair back out!
