Yesterday was a great day in the saddle! Phantom went on his first off property trail ride and was Phan-omenal! Gave him the chance to ride bitless, like we do at home, and he did not disappoint. He took a little encouragement to get on the trailer both going and coming home, but he road alone on my trailer both ways and was a total champ about it. Two of our barn family members also got to enjoy their own horses together for the first time trailered off property. Lots of firsts! A day full of horses and hearts filled with joy! 💚🐴

Hey horse friends, and all friends really....but my fellow equestrians all know the importance of helping our 4 legged friends feel their best, especially when we ask them to carry us through our life's desires. We spend hundreds (and more) on treatments like magna-wave, pemf, acupuncture, chiropractic, custom saddles, specialized feed and the list goes on. But what about us?? I recently discovered that Color Me Tan on White St in York has a full body red light therapy bed!! Red light therapy is proven to help aide your body in cellular regeneration, reduces pain and inflammation, increases joint articulation and helps in muscle recovery...all the reasons why we pay for our horses to receive this same therapy! And the initial results are palpable. I felt so uplifted and energized after my first time in the bed. Imagine what the long term results could be if we spent just $20 a week on ourselves!

Mention this post or KBH Horsemanship and receive a buy-one-get-one when you book your first session! Its only $20 for 15 minutes of total body rejuvenation. Now go show yourself some love ❤️

In some ways it’s disappointing being a trainer who puts the horse first, goes at their pace, does an incredible amount of useful ground work, focuses on biomechanics and correct movement and wants the horse to feel happy and confident.

It’s hard to find clients who not only want the same thing, but realize that doing it correctly takes time.

Everyone is in a race to the show ring to try to beat the other guy.

Every horse I train gets worked with at their pace. 10 minutes here and 15 minutes there and it’s little bits at a time. They get the days off that they need. I never wear them out, drill or over do it. I want them to get it, think about and come back again fresh in the afternoon or the next morning to try the next step for a few minutes. It’s slow and steady building blocks with me.

There’s no fluff and frill. There’s no 5 and 6 year olds practicing Grand Prix movements - that takes years and how many years depends on each individual horse.

There’s no race to the show ring. No competition to see who can climb the levels the fastest.

It’s about building a happy, healthy athlete who feels confident in their body and in their work. Those are the horses who last - physically, mentally and emotionally. Those are the horses that I train and put out into the world.

I wish more people were in it for the right reasons.

The horse first. The date of the show is unimportant.

I have always been a bitless advocate! Whenever a horse comes to me for training, the first thing I do (if its had previous work done), is remove the bit and find the holes in communication. If you've known me long enough, you know my saying is "bits are for people, not horses" and I'll die on that hill ❤️🐴

So proud of Phantom ❤️ He had his first ride around the property today. We had a ton of stimulation going on today too. Both the barn property house and the neighbor behind us that we ride by, had roof work going on. The other neighbor was out doing yard work with his string trimmer, and the water treatment box behind Mercury Electronics was actively making its noise. I had to dismount to walk him by the scary box, but I was able to mount back up right on the other side. And the neighbor, not knowing, caused a bit of a rodeo when he started his trimmer right as we walked past, well Phantom did some rearing and spinning but he calmed right back down and carried on. The others I was riding with didn't even know anything happened, it was a quiet show for my neighbor only 😅 He is such a smart and willing boy though, with more time out, he will be a solid citizen, he's just unsure and needs gentle guidance. It helps that he's pretty much the cutest horse on the property (sorry guys), so he already has his looks going for him 😍 (PS, editing because I can't figure out why my business page never tags people, their names are blue until it posts 🤷‍♀️ just know he rode with two others nicely 😅)

Wanna hear a cool story?...

The other week when I posted my "sneak peek" of the two new boys coming to me, Melissa Porter of the Finger Lakes TB Adoption Program (whom I adopted my horse Z through), reached out to me asking if the TB's name was Bones. I was told his name was Fleurry, but she sent me a few head shots of a horse and I sent them to Sydney with the closing rescue and asked, is this Fleurry? She said Yes, that's him, why? Well....what a story this horse has to tell!

Melissa went on to tell me she had lost track of a horse she adopted out a few years ago, his JC name is Bad To Dah Bone and he was adopted out to, what was thought to be, a veterans therapy program. Turned out the program was a fraud and this horse, along with another she adopted to them named Jazz, were being used in ways that violated the adoption contract as well as being neglected. When Melissa caught word that Bones and Jazz needed help, she attempted to reach out, the woman running the fake program wouldn't honor her contract and Melissa wasn't able to fight for them at the time. A few months go by and Jazz is found by The Equine Advocates of NY, skin and bones, and they were able to remove him and get him to Cornell University to help save him. Melissa hears about this and goes back for Bones, with her contract in hand and police in tow, but they wouldn't let her pull him because there was evidence of food and water on the property, even though he was thin, crusted in manure, with 2 ft of manure in his stall and a woman who is screaming and barrating her with every word in the book. She left empty handed that day and the woman with the fake program puts Bones up for sale. Melissa losses track of him from here.

This is where the rescue I know comes in. A family new to horses buys Bones and another horse she had (this is Phantom). They were lied to about his abilities because Bones, who was now being called Fleurry, has old chips in his knees and should NOT be jumped, but this family was told he had surgery to remove them so he was cleared to do it all now. Being new to horses, they were in over their heads anyway with an OTTB with no real retraining and a mishandled young paint who's scared of people and his own shadow. Sydney with the rescue tried to help them but they eventually decided it would be best if she took them and tried to adopt them out to more appropriate homes. Fast forward a bit and here I am, posting a picture of a horse that's coming to me, Melissa recognizes his unique blaze, and BAM!, we're able to put the missing pieces together and identify Fleurry as FLTAP's missing horse Bones!

How Cool Is That!?!? Of all the people and places this horse could've ended up, he ended up with someone I knew. A full circle story with a happy ending! Melissa was thrilled he was coming to me and now Bones can get properly advertised and into a well suited home within his range of abilities ❤️🐴
