🌟🌟🌟🌟Horse of the Year🌟🌟🌟🌟

Our next candidate is our other newest addition to our diverse herd. Introducing Banjo! Banjo came from the same therapeutic riding program as Moscow and they have a typical sibling relationship.

Banjo’s story began at a slaughter auction in North Carolina. His previous owner named him “Too Much.” Too much screaming, too much hair, too much cuteness! But as it turns out, his previous owner couldn’t have been more wrong. He’s never too much! Banjo has proven to be worth so much more than we ever could have imagined. Banjo is a BIG personality packed into a little pony’s body. If you asked him, though, we’re pretty sure he’d tell you he’s a 20-hand Percheron. He has a luxurious mane and tail, loves being groomed, is VERY food motivated, absolutely adores kids…and mostly just tolerates the adults. Don’t let his size fool you, either. Banjo has quite the résumé! He has experience barrel racing, jumping, hitting the trails, and now loves spending his time participating in therapeutic riding with some of our youngest and smallest riders. And that’s where Banjo really shines.
There’s something special about the way he seems to know exactly what his rider needs from him. Sometimes they need him to challenge them and help build their confidence. Other times, they simply need a patient pony who will slow down and give them a snuggle. Somehow, Banjo knows the difference.
He may have been called “Too Much” once upon a time, but to us—and to the riders who love him—Banjo is just right.

🌟🌟🌟🌟Horse of the Year🌟🌟🌟🌟

Our next contestant is also one of our newest additions to our herd, introducing Moscow, the Appaloosa/ Donkey cross, otherwise known as a mule.
The aptly named Moscow is loyal, loving, goofy, and completely in your pocket. He is calm, cool, and collected and isn’t bothered by much. He loves attention, and has never met any humans or animals he didn’t want to be friends with. He also takes it upon himself to protect the herd from all enemies, foreign or domestic. Whether anyone actually appointed him to this position is another story, but Moscow takes his security duties very seriously.
Moscow got his start pulling a cart through pecan fields. Since then, he has worked with the Wounded Warrior Project and served in assisted therapy with adults, veterans, and children. He has competed in entry level dressage and mounted shooting competitions. Talk about versatile! His calm presence and gentle demeanor make him an incredible partner for the people he works with. There’s just something about Moscow that draws people to him. He makes an impact on just about everyone who meets him, and it’s hard to walk past without stopping to say hello. Maybe it’s his kind eyes, his gentle presence, or those enormous ears—but Moscow has a way of making people feel comfortable just by being near him. It also helps that he’s an amazing listener—although with ears that big, he really has no excuse! When he’s off duty, Moscow appreciates the finer things in life: being groomed, scratches behind those giant ears, and a good trail ride—especially if there’s a creek crossing involved. He also loves rolling in the dirt, preferably immediately after someone has taken the time to give him a nice bath. And then there’s his voice. If you’ve never heard Moscow bray, don’t expect a typical horse sound. There is absolutely no neighing happening here. The best way we can describe it is a dinosaur announcing its arrival.

🏆🏆🏆🏆So why does Moscow deserve Horse of the Year? Sure, he may not technically be a horse—but good luck convincing him (or us) otherwise. He’s flashy, beautiful, has a personality that’s impossible not to love, and has one of the calmest, kindest demeanors around. Add in quite possibly the smoothest ride you’ll ever have, and we think this mule can give any horse a run for their money.🏆🏆🏆🏆

Regrettably, due to the heavy rain over the last few days we need to cancel riding tomorrow morning. The ground is not drying out, leaving the ring and pasture too slippery and muddy for safe riding. Thank you for understanding.

If you are a volunteer that assists us with barn chores we would still appreciate your help!! Meet us there at 9am with your rain boots on!

🌟🌟🌟🌟We’re kicking off our Horse of the Year Competition with our first contestant, Friday! 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Friday is a 28 year old Arabian who was adopted by Snakey from Faith Equine Rescue. Friday is known to make funny faces as you walk by and really enjoys a good scratch under his chin. He really helps our younger 4H kids gain the confidence they need to work around horses. He has so much patience for them and loves the attention. Friday is a friend to all. Don’t be fooled, Friday does have a wild side! He won’t hesitate to give the barnyard grass a good tearing up with his friends Ben and Em when the weather is nice. Like most dogs, Friday is also scared of the storms, unfortunately they don’t make thunder shirts in his size.
