Project PUP (Pets Uplifting People), a 501(c)(3) Pet Therapy Organization since 1984, is dedicated to enhancing emotional well-being, connection, and community through professional pet-assisted interactions. Our certified therapy teams bring comfort, joy, and support to individuals across healthcare, educational, and community settings.

Therapy Animal Certification Classes

Project PUP provides training and evaluation for individuals wishing to volunteer with their pets as certified therapy teams.

Certification Includes:
• Temperament and behavior assessment
• Handler education and safety protocols
• Visit etiquette and best practices
• Ongoing support for volunteer teams

Training & Education Programs

Pet Tech® CPR & First Aid
Hands-on instruction in:
• Pet CPR and rescue breathing
• First aid for common emergencies
• Wellness and safety practices
• Preventive care and emergency preparedness

STAR Puppy & Basic Obedience Classes
Designed to help dogs build confidence, manners, and foundational skills.
Classes Include:
• Socialization and confidence-building
• Basic obedience (sit, stay, come, leash manners)
• Positive reinforcement training
• Preparation for therapy work or advanced training

🐾❤️ Become a Therapy Dog Team — Starting April 12th! ❤️🐾
Have you ever thought about making a real difference in your community with your dog by your side? Now is your chance.
Project PUP is offering a 3-Week Therapy Dog Class beginning April 12th, designed to teach you everything you need to know to become a certified therapy dog team.
Therapy dogs bring comfort, smiles, and support to people who may be having a rough time — whether visiting schools, hospitals, veterans, community events, or individuals who simply need a moment of kindness. And the best part… you get to do it together with your dog.
During this class you will learn:
🐾 What therapy dog work is really about
🐾 How visits are conducted
🐾 Proper etiquette and handling skills
🐾 How to prepare your dog for real therapy visits
🐾 Everything needed to complete your therapy dog certification
By the end of the class, you and your dog will be ready to step out into the community and start making a difference.
Because sometimes the smallest paws make the biggest impact.

Meet Fugou! He is 7 years old and has been with Project Pup for 2 years. He is very popular with children and visiting kids is Fugou’s favorite thing to do. He is commonly asked how many spots does he have.

Congratulations to Sookie, Bill and Lorraine on their recent certification to Project PUP!

Nancy and Bob Subic have shared that their beloved, Binky has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Binky was a dedicated PUP ambassador for over 10 years and regularly visited nursing homes, hospitals, schools and libraries. They are forever grateful for their little angel.

She is a volunteer for Suncoast Hospice in Northern Pinellas County and she has been featured in Bay News 9 for her volunteer work as a therapy dog. Betsie and SusieQ sure are busy and dedicated volunteers.
