🦆🍳 Daphne Duck – our tough little quacker is back at it! 🍳🦆
Look at this girl happily diving into her duck slop like it’s five-star dining! Even with a half-turned beak injury, Daphne is one resilient survivor. She spent a few days with us at Morphis Vet getting patched up, and she’s doing fantastic — heading home tomorrow!
A huge thank you to the wonderful person who found her, brought her in, and generously paid for her care. Because of your kindness, Daphne gets to keep living her best duck life. You’re a true hero! ❤️

🚨 Parvo is in full swing right now — but we have powerful new tools to fight it. ❤️

This month so far we’ve seen 4 brave puppies battle canine parvovirus:

• Blue (Boxer mix) → went home last week

• Cowboy (Heeler) → went home today 🎉

• Smokey (German Shepherd) → admitted today and still receiving treatment. Prayers as he fights are appreciated! 🙏

(We sadly lost one other pup this month — also a German Shepherd. These little fighters don’t always win, even with our best care, and it hits hard every time.)

Spring is classic parvo season (with another bump often in fall), which is why we’re seeing more cases right now.

Parvo in a nutshell (the sneaky villain edition):
This tough virus spreads super easily through p**p and can linger in the environment for months. It wreaks havoc on the gut and immune system, causing vomiting, bloody diarrhea, and major tiredness. Puppies are especially at risk.

Survival facts (the hopeful side):
Without treatment, parvo has up to a 91% mortality rate. With fast, aggressive care it jumps to 80–90%+ survival — and even higher when we add CPMA (real-world data shows 93% survival with CPMA).

The exciting update?
We carry CPMA (Canine Parvovirus Monoclonal Antibody) — a fairly new, USDA-approved targeted treatment that became available in 2023!

It’s a single-dose IV injection that works like a smart superhero: it latches onto the virus and blocks it from attacking healthy cells. When given early with our usual supportive care (fluids, meds, etc.), it often helps puppies recover faster and shortens hospital stays.

We’re using it whenever it fits to give these pups the best shot.

Prevention is still the real MVP:
• Get those puppy shots on schedule (starts ~6-8 weeks)
• Skip dog parks & busy spots until fully vaccinated
• Clean up messes and wash hands — parvo is a survivor!
If your pup seems “off” (super sleepy, not eating, vomiting, or diarrhea), head to the vet ASAP — time really matters.

Big thanks to our team for all the love and hard work. And huge cheers to Blue and Cowboy’s families for those happy “going home” wins! 💙

🎉 Keke the Warrior Cat BEATS Bobcat Fever! 🐱💪

Guess who just came home after fighting one of the toughest tick-borne diseases out there? Keke did!

Bobcat Fever (Cytauxzoonosis) is no joke — it’s caused by a parasite from Lone Star ticks that can hit hard and fast. Without quick action, many cats don’t make it. Symptoms like high fever, extreme lethargy, jaundice (elevated bilirubin), and weakness can spiral in just days.

But here’s the exciting part: With fast diagnosis, the gold-standard treatment (atovaquone + azithromycin) plus aggressive hospital care like IV fluids, Keke pulled through! He spent almost a week in the hospital, but look at this handsome orange guy relaxing at home tonight. He’s still a bit weak, but his amazing owners are rocking the home care — and we’re all cheering him on for a full recovery!

Survival isn’t guaranteed (around 60% with early, intensive treatment), but stories like Keke’s show it’s possible when we act fast.

Prevention tip (super important!): Keep indoor/outdoor cats on year-round tick preventatives, do daily tick checks, and consider limiting outdoor time in tick-heavy areas. Stop in today to grab tick prevention for your cats! Let’s keep more kitties safe and healthy.

Huge shoutout to Keke’s dedicated family and the whole vet team — this is why we love what we do! 🧡

🐰 Hulk Bunny Alert: Green Fur Syndrome! 💚🦠
This fluffy patient arrived with bright green fur on her dewlap — classic Green Fur Syndrome (moist dermatitis from Pseudomonas bacteria loving the wetness).
The cause? Her big dewlap kept dipping into the water bowl like a swimming pool!
Treatment today:
A little clip and clean, plus antibiotics and topical cream. She should be looking (and feeling) better in no time once we keep that area dry with her new water bottle!
We’ll recheck in one week.
Rabbit owners — Act fast!
If you spot wet, green, or matted fur on your bunny’s chin, neck, or dewlap, give us a call ASAP. Don’t try to clip it yourself — these improve quickly once moisture is stopped!

Great news update on our Friday morning calf! 🐮❤️

Our little fighter from that tough early-morning delivery is doing fantastic this Sunday! The swelling on her head and tongue has gone down nicely, and she’s now up on her feet, happily nursing on her own from mom.

Hats off to her owners for the supportive care and tube feeding they provided in those first critical hours — you did an outstanding job and really turned things around for her.

From a difficult start early Friday morning to happily nursing on her own this Sunday… this girl is proving just how resilient she is!
So happy to share this positive update. Welcome to the world, sweet girl!

Frankie’s Successful Tumor Removal – All Healed Up! 🐹

A few weeks ago, we were able to help one of our adorable exotic patients — Frankie the guinea pig — by removing a large, ulcerated tumor from his hip.

The mass had become painful and was at risk of infection, so surgical removal was the right choice. We carefully excised the tumor and closed the site with sutures.

Fun guinea pig fact: Did you know guinea pigs are actually rodents — not pigs at all! — and their teeth never stop growing? Plus, the name “guinea pig” has nothing to do with where they come from: they’re not from Guinea, they’re South American rodents often called cavies! That’s why they need plenty of hay and chew toys to wear those teeth down naturally and stay healthy.

Guinea pigs are amazingly resilient little patients, and Frankie has been a star throughout his recovery. His dedicated owner did a wonderful job with aftercare, and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome.

At our clinic, we don’t just see cats and dogs — we love treating exotics and reptiles too! Cases like Frankie’s are a great reminder of how well these unique pets can do with the right care and timely intervention.
If your exotic pet (guinea pig, rabbit, reptile, or any small friend) has a lump, growth, or skin issue that’s changing or bothering them, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Early attention often makes all the difference.
Here’s to many more zoomies and veggie feasts for Frankie! 🥕💕

🚨 4:30 AM Sphynx Emergency & Happy Ending! 🚨

At 4:30 AM we got the call — Sophie the Sphynx was rushed in for an emergency! Our team jumped into action and she delivered 7 perfect, wrinkly, hairless little miracles! 🐱🎉

Seven kittens are alive, wiggling, and some are already nursing like champs. Sophie is one tough, amazing mama!

We sent mom and her babies home this morning to continue recovering in their own cozy nest. They’re doing great so far!

Our early-bird emergency crew, Elizzia and Elle, went full superhero mode for this one. These bald babies are pure cuteness overload — zero fur, maximum charm!

What an incredible field trip for Liberty Academy’s 4th & 5th graders! 🚌✨

We were truly honored to welcome these wonderful Eagles to the clinic for a hands-on “wild side of education” day. The students explored the fascinating worlds of fish, reptiles, birds, and mammals. They learned about warm- and cold-blooded creatures and even got to meet a marsupial up close.
The day was filled with joyful moments that had them smiling big:
🐾 Feeding the lemur with a fork
🐑 Petting and snuggling the sweetest little lamb — who even got to teach them about Passover and how Jesus is our Passover Lamb this Easter season
🐍 Holding a beautiful ball python
🦎 Meeting a tiny gecko
🐱 Watching a real cat neuter (they stayed so respectful and curious!)
🐂 And yes… a bull Breeding Soundness Exam complete with a surprise “p**p-flinging” moment from his tail that landed right on the front row 😂
It was such a joy to watch their eyes light up with wonder during every part of this up-close learning adventure.
Thank you, Liberty Academy, for bringing your students and allowing us to share this special day with them. Moments like these — blending science, animals, and faith — are what make our hearts full.
❤️

🦆 Meet Marshmellow, our sweet patient from today at Morphis Veterinary Services! 🦆

This friendly white Pekin duck came in with a classic “string foot” injury. A piece of string had wrapped tightly around his lower leg/foot like a tourniquet, cutting off blood flow and causing the tissue below it to die — turning hard, dark, and leathery (dry gangrene/necrosis).

In the close-up photo, you can clearly see the sharp line where the healthy orange scaly skin meets the mummified part that is still attached. Marshmellow is already walking well and using that mummified section for balance in the short term.

Quick Duck Foot Anatomy Lesson:
• Ducks have amazing webbed palmate feet with three forward toes connected by tough webbing, plus one smaller backward-pointing hallux for balance.
• What we call the “leg” is mostly the tarsometatarsus (a strong fused bone) and toes made of phalanges.
• They have a special counter-current blood vessel system in their legs that helps conserve heat in cold water — but a tight string can still cut off circulation quickly and cause serious damage.

With the string removed and proper treatment, ducks like Marshmellow are incredibly resilient and adaptable. Many go on to live completely normal, happy lives even after losing toes or part of a foot. The mummified tissue may eventually slough off on its own or need a small procedure later for the best long-term result. He’ll continue to need clean, dry bedding and close monitoring for infection.

A good reminder for all of us who care for animals: Regularly check legs and feet for anything wrapped around them — string, hair, fishing line, rubber bands, etc. Early removal can prevent a lot of pain and potential complications!
