Just because they’ll eat more doesn’t mean they should! Think about it like this, if you’re not hungry but someone puts your favorite food in front of you, you’re gunna eat it. Even if you shouldn’t. Reptiles don’t need to eat nearly as much as humans might want them to eat. A common issue we try to assist people with multiple times per day!

Ironically enough, yesterday was and we were unaware of that. But over the this current summer have have taken in all of the iguanas pictured here. Most have already been placed in permanent homes. Their health varies greatly from seemingly to some of the most deplorable shape we have seen an Iguana be in. (And we’ve seen a ton of horrible ones). Reasons for surrender vary but usually some kind of lack of space. Anyone who purchases any animal really needs to have a long term care plan. Especially for lizards that can reach 6ft long and live easily 25+ years. We take the time to make sure people know these things prior to taking one of our animals home but that is far from the norm unfortunately. Sellers need to do a better job of screening customers but the blame does not fall entirely on them. Information is everywhere now. There is no excuse to not know how to properly care for your pet. The deformed and iguana in the last slide came in yesterday. A woman “rescued” this animal TWENTY YEARS AGO and had absolutely no idea something was wrong beyond it’s nails being too long. That is just unacceptable. No idea it needed UVB and calcium even. It can barely even walk. How it survived this long, i don’t know. It upsets and often infuriates me when people can be so irresponsible and ignorant when they are in charge of an animal’s life and well being. Thanks for listening to my little rant. Let’s all do better!
