Sunday March 15 for Fifi Schmidt
“I began riding as a young child and grew up horse showing, fox hunting and participating in pony club. During my teenage years, I competed in equitation and junior and amateur owner jumpers with Anne Sibson and Paul Valliere. After college I worked at Bittersweet Farm for Anne Sibson riding and teaching. I later worked at Starlight Farm for Mark Jungherr and then continued on to work at Norfield Farm with Timmy Kees and Jeffrey Welles.
My husband, Jay Mullen, and I started Birchwood Farm in the early 90s where we trained both juniors and adults in Hunters, equitation, and jumpers. We took clients to indoors and Devon in the confirmation Hunter divisions, Green working Hunter division and regular working hunter division. Over the years I took many of my students to compete in that USEF MEDAL finals ASPCA finals and USEF pony finals also I had juniors compete in the Junior Hunter and Junior Jumpers throughout indoors.
When our children became school age, Jay and I scaled down our business and catered to a smaller group of clients at our own farm in Hopkinton MA.
At that time we both got our Judges licenses and have been Judging since 2006.”
