The Best Horses in Heaven, They Have No Tail

“The best horses in Heaven
they have no tail.
This is a rule they all know
without fail.
For when a new horse arrives
with a short cut bob,
they all know that this horse
did a very good job.

His owner could not bear
to part with her friend
so she saved his tail,
wrapped in ribbons
and in braids,
to hold with his memory
in a very loving way.

To enter Heaven
without a tail
is an honor,
a message,
that without fail
announces to everyone,
far and wide
that this horse
was more than a wonderful ride.

But
this horse was loved and cherished by one
and when his time serving on this Earth was done
he left behind
a broken heart
and a soul
from which he never will part.”

In loving memory of Fay faye, who holds a special place in my heart, as I know she does in many others as well.

Faye was the most saintly of saints, who taught hundreds of people to ride over her 28 years. I am honored to have been her safe place to land as she got older. She was my partner, best friend, and most trusted confidant.

Faye entered Heaven on Monday with no tail. ❤️

Just a heads up we will be monitoring air quality for Thursdays lessons. Updates will be sent out as needed!

Where is all this smoke coming from? The source region is Western Ontario, where hundreds of wildfires are happening now, many burning out of control. According to the Canadian Wildland Fire Information System, there are currently 825 active fires in Canada.

The winds are expected to carry thicker smoke to Central New York Thursday afternoon. The air quality index is expected to exceed 200, meaning it's unhealthy to be outdoors for extended periods of time.

Hi everyone,

After a great deal of thought, I have decided to close the riding-school portion of Epona and transition the business toward working exclusively with riders who lease and own horses.

For the past five years, I have been incredibly grateful to work with so many wonderful students and families. It has been a privilege to be part of each rider’s growth, and I truly appreciate the trust and support you have given me and the horses.

The horses and the lease program will be moving to a new barn on August 1. I will communicate directly with each family regarding their remaining lessons and schedule before the move.

I understand that this change may be disappointing, and I am happy to assist current students in finding other local barns or instructors where they can continue taking lessons.

Thank you again for being part of Epona over the past five years. I am deeply grateful for the memories, relationships, and experiences we have shared.

☀️ Extreme Heat = A Different Kind of Horsemanship Lesson 🐴

With today’s temperatures reaching 96°F and the heat index reaching our caution zone, we modified our lesson plans to put the health and well-being of our horses first.

Today our students learned that being a good horseperson isn’t just about riding—it’s about knowing how to care for your horse in all conditions.

During today’s ground lessons, our students learned how to:
🐴 Check a horse’s temperature
🩺 Assess gum color and hydration
💨 Count a horse’s respiratory rate
🚿 Properly cool horses with a bath after the heat
💧 Discuss the importance of fresh water, shade, and fans
🥣 Feed Purina RepleniMash to help support hydration and electrolyte replacement after working in the heat

We also talked about recognizing the signs of heat stress, including lethargy, elevated temperature, increased respiratory rate, and changes in gum color, and why it’s so important to act quickly when horses are working in extreme weather.

These are skills every horse owner and rider should know. Riding is only one part of horsemanship—understanding how to keep our equine partners healthy and comfortable is just as important.
