If I’ve seemed a little vacant lately, it’s because kitten season is absolutely dragging me across the floor like a cartoon character who didn’t sign up for this episode.
We are overwhelmed in every direction — nonstop messages, cats needing to be fixed, people needing help with their cats, and a never‑ending rotation of vet trips, scheduling, coordinating, and trying to keep up with emergencies that pop up faster than I can write them down.
I’m tired in that deep, soul‑tired way that rescue brings. The kind where you stare at a wall because your brain needs to buffer. I’m literally dreaming about cats at this point — not cute dreams, but logistics dreams. “This cat needs an appointment” dreams. “Why is this cat multiplying” dreams.
And don’t forget — on top of all the cat chaos, we still have the rest of the rescue to run. The part with the pigs, goats, and everyone else who also have their own drama. Like when two pigs who have been best friends for months suddenly decide they hate each other and now need to be moved. Because of course they do. Why wouldn’t they.
If I seem slow to respond, distant, or like I’m mentally in another dimension, it’s not you. It’s the tidal wave of kitten season, sanctuary life, and the fact that my brain is currently running on animal chaos, caffeine, and sheer willpower.
Through all of this — the chaos, the exhaustion, the constant juggling — I want to say this clearly: I am grateful.
Grateful for the people who have mailed feed straight to the Lair when we needed it most.
And especially grateful for every single person who has donated — whether it was $5 or $100.
If I haven’t said thank you from the very bottom of my heart, please hear it now: thank you.
Your support is the reason we can keep going when everything feels overwhelming.
We’re stretched thin. We’re doing our best. And we appreciate everyone who gives us grace while we try to keep up with the avalanche.
