Overgrown nails in dogs and cats can cause pain, discomfort, and difficulty walking. Signs that nails are too long include clicking sounds on hard floors, nails curling toward the paw pads, limping, changes in posture, broken nails, and excessive licking of the paws. Regular nail trimming helps maintain healthy paws, proper posture, and comfortable movement. When trimming at home, use pet-specific nail clippers and cut only the tips to avoid the sensitive quick, which contains blood vessels and nerves. If nails are severely overgrown, curled into the pads, bleeding, or difficult to trim safely, consult your veterinarian or a professional groomer. Regular nail checks can help prevent injuries and keep your pet comfortable.

The cutest rabbit came in for an exam.

An Indian star tortoise that came in to see Dr. Finkelstein for an exam. Below is some information on Indian star tortoises. They are beautiful animals.

The Indian star tortoise (Geochelone elegans) is a small to medium-sized tortoise native to India, Sri Lanka, and parts of Pakistan. It is famous for its beautiful shell markings and distinctive appearance.
Characteristics of the Indian Star Tortoise
Appearance: Its high-domed shell is usually dark brown or black with striking yellow star-shaped patterns radiating across each shell plate. Its skin is generally tan to brown with yellow markings.
Size: Adults typically grow to about 7–12 inches long, although size varies by individual and population.
Diet: It is primarily herbivorous, eating grasses, leafy plants, flowers, and other vegetation.
Habitat: It naturally lives in dry scrublands, grasslands, and woodland areas.
Lifespan: It may live for several decades with appropriate care.
