Hey, Ferretocracy Friends! 🐾

We have been quiet for a while, and we wanted to come back here and tell you we have not forgotten you. Not even a little.

Life got complicated. Costs got impossible. We made the hard call to pause our shop rather than compromise the quality or the mission. It was not easy, but it was right.

What kept us going through all of it? Honestly? You. Every photo you have tagged us in. Every video of your babies still curled up in toys we made years ago. Every message that said “my ferret loves this so much.” We felt every single one.

Our goal is to bring Ferretocracy back in 2028, with better offerings, a clearer vision, and the same obsessive commitment to fluff-first design that started all of this. We have some major milestones ahead and look forward to sharing with you as things progress.

We know it’s been a very hard time for everyone. We hope you and your fluffs are safe and well.

I haven’t had the heart to make cute cat videos due to the events transpiring around us in Minnesota the last few weeks. Our local park where I walk Raja the most has had dangerous masked federal agents illegally parked on walking paths, waiting to abduct anyone they deem doesn’t belong. I have witnessed them drive erratically and break traffic laws. The elementary school closest to us has had 30% of its students not coming to school as these dangerous agents have frequently been outside before, during and after school.

Children and people that have no reason to be afraid are suddenly feeling fear. Profiling is happening, Your history and status doesn’t matter to these criminals. Last night, a woman down my street was abducted while waiting at the bus stop. Our region has become irrevocably less safe.

Civil rights are being violated and due process has been made irrelevant… so I have taken time off of posting to be a part of the front lines of resistance here in Minnesota.

Raja and I both know that no human being is illegal and our differences are what makes us great. All criticizing comments and laughing emojis will be blocked - no cute cat videos for you 😼

Dr. Scott Gottlieb has a piece in WaPo today that is one of the most important things written about vaccines lately, and it's not even really about vaccines. It's about what viruses do to us long after we think we've recovered. He was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma at 33. His cancer cells tested positive for Epstein-Barr virus. EBV infects 90% of the world's population, but for some people, that "harmless" infection kicks off a chain that ends in cancer, autoimmune disease, or neurological damage years or decades later.

Vaccines worked so well that people forgot what the diseases actually do. So now the infections sound theoretical and the vaccine risks sound concrete, and the whole calculus gets flipped!
The "natural immunity" narrative? (We prefer the term survivor immunity, because that's what it actually is.) It's definitely not superior to the protection vaccines provide. Survivor immunity means your body fought off a live pathogen with all the collateral damage that comes with it.

EBV potentially seeding lymphoma or MS. Measles wiping your immune memory clean. Enteroviruses triggering autoimmune attacks on your pancreas. The list goes on and on.

Vaccine-induced immunity gives you the protection without the wreckage, and death is not the only outcome vaccines prevent. Disability. Chronic disease. Cancer. Autoimmune conditions that last decades.

It's a real bee in our bonnet when people say "these are just mild childhood illnesses." The acute illness isn't always the problem. It's what happens five, ten, twenty years later that we're still uncovering.

NIH was working on an EBV vaccine. A vaccine that could potentially prevent MS, lupus, and certain lymphomas. That research is now in jeopardy as federal vaccine initiatives get curtailed. Drugmakers are pulling back because the regulatory pathway through FDA and CDC is being actively undermined.

We're closing doors on preventing diseases we're beginning to understand, and the costs won't always be immediate. They'll show up in diagnoses that didn't have to happen, research that never got funded, a generation of kids whose "mild" infections turned out to be anything but...

9/4/2025, H5N1 contamination in raw pet food CONTINUES to be an ongoing issue as we get ready to head back into fall. The link to the most recent FDA recall can be found in the comments- RAWR brand raw cat food, based in California.

It is important to note a few things:

• This virus, typically seasonal and spread by migratory birds to domestic livestock, has seemingly established an ongoing foothold in dairy farms across the western US. HPAI is less fatal and more treatable in cattle than in birds or felines. As a result, we VERY FIRMLY ADVISE AGAINST the consumption of raw milk by humans or pets. Either buy pre pasteurized or pasteurize it yourself, but DO NOT consume raw milk or offer it to pets.

• We STRONLY ADVISE AVOIDING all commercially processed raw poultry for your pets, including raw commercial poultry based pet food, raw freeze dried poultry based pet food, and raw poultry sold for human consumption. If its a species born with a beak, dont feed it to your pet raw. (Possible exception- day old chicks hatched in an incubator and immediately euthanized for pet food. These are a treat, not a meal)

• This virus has a very high mortality rate for cats, can seriously impact mustelids, and can be extremely serious/deadly for humans as well. If you choose to continue feeding raw poultry (or raw milk) please at least be aware of the risk, the symptoms, and seek immediate medical attention for your pet if they fall ill. Be aware that cats do not typically survive, and may have neurological damage if they do survive.

• At MMR, we feed a mixed diet of kibble, whole prey rodents & fish, as well as limited amounts of raw beef commercial pet food from a processor that does not process any poultry. We encourage you to do the same: 🐓 AVOID POULTRY 🐓
