This year, the World Veterinary Association is focusing on the role of veterinarians and their role in protecting food safety and public health through their work. About 75% of emerging infectious diseases that humans experience actually come from animals (zoonotic diseases), and veterinarians are the front line of defense in ensuring these diseases are detected, treated, and prevented from spreading. This not only protects us and our pets from disease, but also the livestock and poultry that make up our food chain.
Happy World Veterinary Day to the veterinarians who work hard to keep us and our animals safe in so many ways!
