This Foxtsil season. Foxtails are dangerous, barbed seed heads from certain grasses that pose a severe health risk to pets, often requiring veterinary intervention. They thrive in spring and summer, appearing as soft green or brittle yellow spikes. Their microscopic barbs move forward but never backward, allowing them to burrow into skin, noses, ears, and paws. Dr. Dean took some photo examples of what to look for when outside, and there is a photo of different stages.
