It’s officially pond season at The Fish Store! We pretty much sold through our first batch of animals already and just restocked this afternoon. Everything we have brought in so far looks great and will bring any outdoor water feature to life. We also have water lettuce and water hyacinth available to enhance the surface appeal of your pond or container. Both of these plants do best with full sun and do not live past first frost. Things are moving quickly, so get them while you can!

How many of you have heard of Mesonauta festivus, the festivum cichlid? These uncommon animals originate in the Amazon and are very similar to angels in their ecology and size. We brought a small group a while ago and now have a pair formed that spawned late last night. We still have three others if a pair is too many for your tank, but it looks like two of those may be pairing off as well.

Has anyone else ever managed to create a standing wave in their aquarium? A standing wave is defined as a type of wave where the amplitude (crest and trough) do not appear to move laterally. This one is caused by the resonance of two wave makers oscillating in opposite directions. It’s a fun effect to see when you can match the wavelength and the frequency to your tank length.

We are doing some reorganization here at The Fish Store and are looking to move out the Aquarium Masters’ LED light strips and full hoods as well as the collection of protein skimmers. The LED units are reliable light sources, great for fish only tanks or low to moderate light levels for planted tanks. The protein skimmers, also known as foam fractionators, are used on saltwater tanks to pull organic material from the water before it decays. They are recommended for tanks that are overstocked with fish and/or overfed. Due to some strange physics laws, they do not work in freshwater systems unless the organic load is something near actual soup. 🤷. Inventory is limited to stock on hand.

We have a nice batch of locally bred L-397 Alenquer tiger plecos and a good sized school of mixed color, long-fin Ancistrus. These are all good sized and well priced. Neither reach more than about 3-4 inches and can do well in a 20 gallon tank. Small ones can work in a 10, but will need to be relocated eventually.

We have a fresh batch of black shultzi corys in stoking anyone is look for some at a great price! These peaceful bottom dwellers do well with other peaceful community species in thanks 10 gallons or larger. While they do enjoy to be in large schools, this is definitely an adaptable species that can do very well in small groups to. Remember too that you can easily mix Cory species to get variety in a school.
