🗓️ Mark your calendars, College of Ag Alumni! The next ACES (Agricultural, Consumer & Environmental Sciences) Family Academies will be July 8-10, 2026.

👨🏼‍🏫 Want to teach a course? Any ACES alum is welcome to share their expertise in a 60-minute session that highlights a segment of an ACES Education (https://forms.illinois.edu/sec/471003612).

🧑‍🧑‍🧒 Already know you and your family are attending? Email [email protected] by December 31, 2025, with the names of each of your participating family members to receive a discount code for $10 off per participant once registration opens in the spring!

🚜 The ACES Alumni Association welcomes alumni to bring their youth ages 8-13 to campus for a unique intergenerational learning experience at ACES Family Academies. This three-day interaction is a fun-filled experience that actively engages kids in ACES academics while creating memories for families.

👩🏻‍🎓 Enroll in courses and “graduate” with a diploma. Along with the activities in the classroom, there is plenty of time to socialize.

🏆 Mastering the Family Academies Experience

🏔️ At the opposite end of the country in Seattle, the McCluskey/Small family has made ACES Family Academies a staple in their summer vacation plans — driving over 2,095 miles one way!

👦🏼 Yuli Small is the son of Lisa Rae McCluskey (ANSC ’98) and Kevin Small (Grainger ’98, ’02, ’09).

🚘 “We sacrifice quite a bit of time to make it happen, but it's worth it,” Lisa said.

🥇 “The academy makes sure every child feels supported and recognized. It makes it more enjoyable knowing that ACES meets students where they are, and gives them unique learning opportunities.”

📚 Yuli took part in several courses this year, including Cooking with an Air Fryer, Future of Farming: Ag Robots, and Secrets of the Rain Garden: Nature, Insects & Hidden Wonders.

🖥️ During Future of Farming: Ag Robots, he learned how the future of agriculture is growing through technology.

🚜 The course focused on past, current, and future uses of robots on farms, with the opportunity to build a small robot at the end of the session.

🤖 “My favorite part has always been the robotics,” Yuli said.

👀 “I look forward to coming, seeing my family, and doing more with robots!”

🧡”ACES Family Academies offers the chance for alumni to supplement their stories with an engaging and impactful experience,” says Meghan Brockamp, the coordinator of alumni engagement, who organizes ACES Family Academies.

💙”Sometimes, Family Academies is the first opportunity in years that alumni have had to return to campus, so they get to explore right along with their family members.”

👂🏼 We must listen to our trustees and members, whose energy and time to push our mission onward has markedly diminished.

🧬 Additionally, we want to be respectful of the origins of the Foundation: why it was established; what its purpose served for both APDT and its members.

🤔 Therefore, after much discussion, contemplation and evaluation, the Foundation came to the difficult decision to cease operations and dissolve all assets.

⏰ It is time – and the support of our organization was too sparse to maintain functionality.

🐶 We will miss you at conference this year; however, our VP Catherine & Secretary-Treasurer Suzanne will represent us and answer your questions.
