This week’s staff shoutout goes to our lovely Jen — or Jen-Hen, as Gio calls her. 💚

Gosh, where do we even start? After years of experience in the administrative world, Jen found her way to Mercer Street, and we are so glad she did. As her manager likes to say, Jen is our sparkle. ✨

If you’ve visited us, there’s a good chance Jen has welcomed you and your fur baby with one of her signature cheerful hellos. She has a way of making every interaction feel warm, genuine, and memorable. Her empathy, kindness, and natural ability to make people feel cared for are just a few of the many things we love about her. Jen has been with us for almost a year, but somehow it feels like she’s been part of the Mercer Street work fam for so much longer.

Jen, your caring nature, your willingness to always jump in and help your teammates, and the compassion you show our pet parents never go unnoticed. From your sparkling “hello!” to your sweet “have a good day!” on the way out, you bring a little extra joy to everyone around you.

We appreciate you so much, Jen-Hen. Mercer Street wouldn’t sparkle quite as brightly without you. 💚✨

When your name is Drama but you take your administrative duties very seriously. 😂💚

Drama reviewed the schedule and unfortunately, there are not enough cuddle appointments. She’ll be addressing this with management immediately.

Until then, she’ll be supervising from here. 🫰

Our hearts are with everyone impacted by yesterday's shooting at Seattle Center.

This is our neighborhood. This is our home. This is the community we love and serve every day.

Knowing that such a tragic event took place so close to home is deeply heartbreaking. We stand with the victims, their families, and everyone affected by this senseless act of violence.

Seattle is a city built on compassion, resilience, and community. We will continue to support one another, lift each other up, and move forward together. We are Seattle. We are strong.

Today, Mercer Street Veterinary Hospital will be closed from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM while our team reviews emergency preparedness and safety procedures. The safety and well-being of our team, clients, and community remain a top priority.

We would love to come together as a community and support those affected by this tragedy. If there is any way Mercer Street Veterinary Hospital can help, please send us a DM. Whether big or small, we would love the opportunity to support our neighbors in any way we can.

Seattle, we're with you. ❤️

Sweet Otis and his emotional support otter both had a big day! 🦦🦷

Otis had a full dental procedure, including dental X-rays and a professional cleaning with our Licensed Vet Techs, and his little otter friend was there for moral support every step of the way. Now they’re both ready to show off those sparkling, healthy smiles.

Honestly… is this not the cutest thing you’ve ever seen? 🥹💚

👀 Spot the foxtail…

Foxtail season is here, and these little grass seeds can cause some big problems. Their sharp, barbed shape lets them work their way into your pet’s skin, ears, nose, eyes, and even between their toes, but they can’t work their way back out.

After hikes or time in tall grass, give your pet a quick head-to-toe check, especially around the paws, ears, armpits, and coat. Sneezing, head shaking, limping, swelling, or excessive licking can all be signs that a foxtail is hiding where it shouldn’t be.

The sooner they’re found, the easier they are to remove. If you think your pet has a foxtail, give us a call so we can help before it becomes a bigger problem. 💚

Not gonna lie… seeing a cute dog walk through our doors instantly makes everyone’s day. 💚🐶

We loved spending some time with Giovanni and Dr. Bre!

While we absolutely love the pets who run in with wagging tails, we have an extra soft spot for the ones who are a little nervous. We get it. (Honestly… most of us in vet med are a little scared of our own doctors too. 😅)

Whether your pet needs extra snuggles, tasty snacks, gentle encouragement, or a bravery bandana to wear home with pride, we’re here to help make every visit a little less scary and a lot more comforting. 🩺✨

💚 Spay Recovery Checklist 💚

✔️ Keep activity low for the next 10–14 days. Puzzle toys, lick mats, snuffle mats, and extra cuddles are great ways to keep them entertained without the zoomies. Rest and recovery is so important.

✔️ Keep the cone or surgery suit on. We know… they’re not exactly a fashion statement, and we wouldn’t want to wear one either. But they’re the best way to protect the incision while it heals.

✔️ Give medications as directed and check the incision daily. Reach out to your veterinary team if you’re concerned. You can always send us a photo if you are concerned. 🥰

To all the pet parents: it’s okay to feel nervous or even a little guilty. No one likes seeing their pet go through surgery. But spaying is one of the best gifts you can give their future health, helping prevent unwanted pregnancies, uterine infections, and significantly reducing the risk of mammary cancer.

A couple weeks of recovery is worth a lifetime of healthier years together. 💚🐾

Willow’s spay day recap 💚✨

Here’s a peek at Willow’s spay surgery, minus the extra gross parts 😅 Her mom gave us permission to share a little behind-the-scenes science moment, and Willow was such a brave girl through it all.

She’s all finished up and ready to head home with Mom for rest, cuddles, and recovery. Huge thank you to Dr. Hinnant and the Mercer team for taking such great care of her. 🐾
