Anyone else dealing with a lot of fear on walks? Brick is VERY afraid of walks in the city (and we live in a relatively quiet one). I’ve started allowing him the option of walking or riding in the bag, but sometimes he just refuses to get out of the bag. He was building more confidence but has definitely had a set back with his recent injury.

Brick update! Sorry for the week or so of silence, but I have good news! Brick had his first vet check up since his hospital stay, and the vet said his lungs sound great! He is finally, completely, out of the woods! Since returning home, I’ve been realizing just how bad Brick’s injuries were. I’m so grateful that every choice made turned out to be the right one and that Brick is still here today. Brick still has several weeks of recovery ahead of him, but the worst seems to be over. Brick will be happy for the day that he can do endless zoomies again though!

Happy from this sweet boy who is giving (and getting) allllll the kisses since coming home. He’s on moderate exercise restriction and is not happy about the “no zoomies” rule, but is stable and seems to be doing better today than yesterday. It will still take about 2 weeks for his body to absorb the fluid in his lungs. Brick doesn’t know he’s sick though so he thinks all this exercise restriction is pretty unfair. Thank you for all your continued support! Brick expected to make a full recovery! ❤️

Update! My husband got home yesterday and we immediately went to go see Brick. The oxygen in his oxygen cage has been lowered, the last time we saw him it was 33% and his respiration is within a normal range. His blood pressure and heart rate are normal. It seems Brick is on the other side of this and what he needs now is time to heal. He asked for belly rubs from his oxygen cage last night so I think he must be feeling a bit better! I am currently waiting on a call from the doctor, so fingers crossed it is good news!

Update! I touched down and took the lite rail straight to the emergency vet. I’d spoken with the doctor ahead of time. Brick was stable on 60% oxygen in his cage, but his respiratory rate increased when they tried to lower it to 40%. He is also having trouble expelling CO2. This is not necessarily abnormal, it just means his lungs are still needing time to heal. I was hesitant to see Brick because I didn’t want to get him too excited, but I was ensured it would be okay. He is acting more or less like his normal self and doesn’t seem to know that he’s sick. It was so so hard to leave him. He’s not out of the woods yet, but I hope he’ll be coming home in a day or two.

UPDATE: Brick is in critical condition in an “oxygen cage” with two lung contusions that are bleeding and filling his lungs with blood. He has improved ever so slightly in the past few hours and his blood pressure has come up a bit. He is expected to get worse before he gets better and the first 48 hours is critical. His pet sitter was allowed to bring him a blanket and the elephant that he sleeps with and he seemed in good spirits. Please keep the healing vibes and prayers coming!

Please send all the healing vibes and prayers Brick’s way! My sweet baby puppy was accidentally stepped on and he started vomiting up bloody bile. He is at the emergency vet with the petsitter while his dad and I sit in another country absolutely beside ourselves. I head home tomorrow and cannot wait to see my Baby Puppy again. In the meantime, I will keep you all updated.
