Behavior work with animals is solitary at the point where it counts, decided alone and in the moment.

In a field where methods are endlessly debated in public, admitting that a case went badly carries a real professional risk. Difficult questions stay private as a result, and competence pays for it, because analytical skill develops through error analysis, and error analysis needs a space where admitting uncertainty costs you nothing.

We created International Interspecies Studies (IIS) to be that space.
Built by Jessica Pacheco from Borderland Barks, Tilde Detz Jensen from etologi.dk, and Roberto Barata (Human-Animal Science), IIS connects applied ethology, anthrozoology, and learning theory directly to daily field practice.

IIS is an academically grounded, intentionally small setting for trainers and practitioners including:

• Full case studies followed in depth
• Full access to courses and video material
• Live training sessions and study groups
• A place to discuss complex cases without judgment or performance pressure

We don't use automated entry or tiered access; every member begins with a personal conversation to protect the quality and trust of the group.

📩 Early access opens soon. Send a DM directly to Roberto Barata to start your conversation for early access.

Ever wonder how your dog sees the world? 👀
Dogs’ eyes are a little different from ours, and those differences give them some pretty amazing visual abilities!

There are two main types of photoreceptors in the eye: rods and cones.
🔹 Rods are especially important for seeing in dim light and detecting movement.
🔹 Cones are responsible for seeing in bright light and detecting color.
Dogs have many more rods than humans, but fewer cones. So, what does that mean for your pup?

🔦 Dogs see better than humans in low-light conditions. Their abundance of rods helps them see when it’s dark or dim.

💙💛Dogs see blue and yellow best. Based on the types of photopigments found in their cones, dogs can distinguish blue and yellow particularly well. Their color vision is different from ours—they don’t see the full range of colors that humans do.

🐿️Dogs are great at detecting movement. Their rod-rich eyes make them especially sensitive to moving objects, which is an important ability for animals that rely on detecting motion in their environment.

🌅Dogs also have a wider field of vision. Because their eyes are positioned more toward the sides of their heads than ours, they can see a broader area around them. The trade-off? They generally have less depth perception than humans.

So the next time your dog suddenly notices something moving in the distance or seems to see perfectly well at dusk, remember—they’re experiencing the world through a very different set of eyes!
