I saw a post on instagram that said “obedience DOESN’T kill drive.”

This has been rattling in my brain 🧠 and i have to respond to it … Respectfully.

I think the real answer is a little more layered than that.

Dogs do come with natural traits and energy levels. Genetics matter.

But training determines how much of that you actually see.

I’ve seen plenty of dogs labeled “low drive” start working with a lot more enthusiasm once engagement and reward clarity were built.

Not because drive magically appeared — but because the dog finally had a reason to invest.

Obedience done well should channel drive.

Obedience done poorly can absolutely flatten a dog.

The goal isn’t to force every dog to look the same. It’s to bring out the best version of the dog you have.

Weight pull.
