AZ Exotic Bird Rescue needs helping hands — and our birds need YOU!

At 2724 N Scottsdale Rd , Scottsdale Az 85257. We are Between Oak and Thomas Rd in a White House that says BIRDSin big red letters. Parking is in the back.

With so many feathered friends in our care, there’s always plenty to do. We’re looking for dependable, animal-loving volunteers who can help us with:

🧹 Cleaning cages & the rescue
🥕 Preparing food & feeding birds
💦 Refreshing food and water bowls
🦜 Helping with general bird care
🧽 Keeping our birds’ spaces clean, safe & coming
❤️ And, of course, giving our birds some extra love and attention!

Whether you can help regularly or just have some extra time to give, every set of hands makes a difference.

Understanding the Decision to Surrender a Pet Bird

At AZ Exotic Bird Rescue, we know that surrendering a pet bird is a deeply personal and often painful decision. This choice is never made lightly, and we want you to know that we understand the complex emotions involved.

Life can change in unexpected ways. Sometimes, despite your very best efforts and intentions, circumstances arise that make it difficult to continue providing the care your feathered companion needs. Health challenges, financial constraints, housing changes, family dynamics, or other unforeseen situations can all play a role. In these moments, surrendering your bird may be the most responsible and compassionate choice you can make for their well-being.

We want to be very clear: surrendering your bird does not mean you have failed. On the contrary, it shows deep love and selflessness—putting your bird’s needs first, even when it’s heartbreaking. At AZ Exotic Bird Rescue, our priority is to provide a safe, stable, and nurturing environment for every bird that comes into our care, while we work to find them a home where they can truly thrive.

We have been absolutely inundated with parakeets recently and would love to find these wonderful birds the loving homes they deserve.

To help more birds find families, we are temporarily reducing our parakeet adoption fee to just $5 per bird! This special is for budgie parakeets only. Not Indian Ringnecks or Quaker parakeets .

✨ Why Consider a Parakeet?

Parakeets (also known as budgies) are often overlooked because of their small size, but they are truly incredible companion birds.

🦜 They are intelligent and curious
🦜 They can form strong bonds with their people
🦜 Many learn impressive vocabularies and can mimic words and phrases
🦜 They are playful, entertaining, and full of personality
🦜 They are a wonderful introduction to bird ownership

In fact, some budgies have developed vocabularies of hundreds of words and are considered some of the most talented talking birds in the parrot world!

⏳ Lifespan Commitment

With proper care, nutrition, veterinary care, and enrichment, parakeets can live 10–15 years or more. They may be small, but they are a long-term commitment and deserve loving homes that will provide them with quality care throughout their lives.

💚 Whether you’re looking for a single companion bird, a bonded pair, or additions to an aviary, we have many wonderful parakeets currently looking for families.

For just $5 each, you can give a deserving bird a second chance while making room for us to continue helping the many birds that need rescue.

💚❤️ Meet Tessa – Green-Winged Macaw ❤️💚

Some birds have a way of capturing your heart, and Tessa is one of them. This beautiful Green-Winged Macaw is looking for a special forever home that will appreciate her sweet personality and unique journey.

🦜 About Tessa:
• Green-Winged Macaw
• Gender unknown (despite her name!)
• Age unknown
• Hand-tamed
• Steps up nicely
• Talks and enjoys interacting with people
• Loves almonds 🌰
• Currently eating Lafeber products, peanuts, and Nutri-Berries

Tessa especially enjoys the company of men and tends to form strong bonds with them. She can also be good with women, although she seems to prefer having her favorite person all to herself when a man is around. 💕

✨ A Few Special Considerations

We have been told that Tessa is blind in her right eye, and one of her wings does not fully open. Despite these challenges, she is doing well and is now preening herself beautifully. She gets around well and doesn’t let her physical limitations define her.

Like many special-needs parrots, Tessa focuses on what she can do rather than what she can’t—and what she loves most is spending time with people and enjoying her favorite treats.

Often called the “gentle giants” of the macaw world, Green-Winged Macaws are known for their affectionate nature, intelligence, and deep bonds with their families. They are highly social companion parrots that thrive on interaction and enrichment.

Green-Winged Macaws can:

• Learn words and phrases
• Form strong bonds with their people
• Be affectionate, playful, and incredibly rewarding companions

Because of their size, intelligence, and lifespan, macaws require dedicated adopters who are prepared for a lifelong commitment.

These two adorable Parrotlets are still very young and haven’t been named yet — their future families can choose the perfect names for them ✨

🦜 About These Babies:
• Very young

• Curious and playful
• Tiny birds with BIG personalities

Despite their small size, Parrotlets are often called “pocket parrots” for a reason. They are actually closely related to Amazon parrots and can definitely show that bold, confident personality at times! They are intelligent, feisty, social little birds that thrive with interaction and enrichment.

While tiny, they should never be underestimated — Parrotlets are full companion parrots in miniature form 💚

These babies are already showing sweet temperaments and are looking for homes ready to give them attention, patience, and proper care as they grow.
