I get asked this question often, and my answer is always the same: NOW!

The sooner you start socializing your puppy, teaching engagement, building obedience, and establishing boundaries, the better you can set them up for success.

Service dog in training, Harley, working on her public access skills!

This was one of Harley’s first few public outings, so we started in the parking lot by working on heeling, engagement, and getting her focused on her handler despite the distractions around her.

Once she was ready, we headed inside and continued working on those same skills while adding in a few commands to make sure she was truly listening & not just following along.

The goal is to build a dog who can stay focused, composed, and responsive in a variety of environments before expecting her to navigate a busy store successfully.

Every outing is about building confidence, reliability, and the ability to work through distractions. 🐾

Captain is a 3.5-month-old Doberman puppy, and this was his very first training session in a public store! We worked on engagement with his handler while walking by food on the floor as a real-world distraction.

Why We Incorporate Muzzles Into Training

Muzzles play an important role in training and managing dogs that are reactive, aggressive, fearful, or have a history of making unsafe choices.

A muzzle is not a punishment, and it does not mean a dog is bad. It is a safety tool that allows us to responsibly work with and manage dogs while protecting the dog, their handler, and the people and animals around them.

We incorporate muzzle training because:

• It allows handlers to work their dogs with more confidence and less stress

• It can make situations such as veterinary visits, grooming, public outings, and social environments safer

• It gives us another management option for dogs who may always have a higher bite risk

• It allows dogs to participate in everyday life while keeping everyone around them safe

•It acts as a clear visual warning to the public that this dog needs space, helping people think twice before approaching or allowing their dog to get too close
